Thanks for the raffle, but I'll sit out of this one. I have and love my Saturn but I think this would get more use with someone else - I'll stick with couch co-op. I just wanted to chime on my favorite arcade games, of which I could never choose only one of:
Berzerk comes to mind as being my favorite from the classic era, for a long time. Simple, addictive, and tons of fun. I still like to play it.
Xenophobe - I just loved the format of this game when I was a kid. I'm pretty nostalgic for that Atari graphical style they had in their arcade games from this period. That includes
Xybots,
Roadblasters, you name it. Liked Xenophobe so much I tried to recreate my own (I believe I called it "Cyber Cop") in the same style using the Arcade Game Creation Kit on my C64. I suppose I should give a shout out to
Gauntlet 1/2 (Not legends! Too much of a purist) here as another one I obsessed over for a good long time.
King of Dragons, and it's cousin
Knights of the Round. KoD is more primitive but there's something about the style I love. Of course any Capcom or Konami beat em' up I ran into I played a ton.
Nitroball - Since Rogha Armor Force was mentioned (also great) I gotta give props to Nitroball. It's certainly a bit of a rip off from Smash T.V. but it has it's own feel and has those weird themes and great Data East music. I would have one of these in my home, I love it.
Elevator Action Returns - Completely awesome Elevator Action sequel with a super cool 90's anime vibe (think Kenichi Sonoda).
Kingdom Grandprix - Probably my favorite shooter in the arcade. Of course there is the sequel
Dimahoo which is also great. Oh! And I should also mention
Dangun Feveron too, the disco themed shooter which is awesome.
Cadash - Absolutely fell in love with this game. I remember reading about it in EGM or some other game magazine first, and finally playing it whenever I could in the arcade. Didn't get past stage 1 until I got the Turbo version. I beat that a ton of times, but I regret letting go of it. Need to find another copy! One of my all time faves. A real sense of adventure and great music by Taito.
I have so many specific arcade memories connected to trips down to the ocean, spending a couple weeks at one of the campgrounds we often went to (and I dragged my TurboDuo and C64 monitor along also many times as well!) or from one of the local malls around here.
Quartet,
Rastan,
Chiller and
Ironman Stewart's Super Off Road all come to mind. I spent a lot of time with each of those. Many Neo games too, my favorites were
Sengoku and
King of the Monsters for a while. Of course I loved
Galaga also, but who didn't? I have literally hundreds of arcade faves so I guess I'll stop here for now.
BTW: I wonder what Black Tiger's and Tron's favorite arcade games are?
Maybe just a coincedence... Sorry if I missed other members who have arcade games for their forum alias!
