Turbo PC Henshin - Help With Running PC Engine System Card 3.0...

First of all, I want to say hello to everyone in this community! I'm very thankful that the TG16 and PC Engine still have a wonderful following 

I recently purchased a PC Henshin Turbo adapter from DBElectronics (Link to the product: http://www.db-elec.com/home/products/turbo-pc-henshin ). I have an American Turbografx 16, along with the CD attachment, and I purchased the adapter so I can run the Japanese System Card 3.0 so I can play import and Super CD disks.

While I have been able to successfully play PC Engine Hucards, I have not been able to boot any Super CD games... I was able to successfully boot the PC Engine System Card 3.0 on my American TG16 system, but all my 3.0 compatible games (both US and JPN) freeze at the "Just a moment..." screen, or it just goes to a black screen while the CD-ROM drive stops spinning...all my games that are compatible with the System Card 2.0 work just fine (YS 1 and 2, Fighting Street, Rainbow Islands), but none of the 3.0 - compatible games work (and they're all original legit copies - Loom (Turbo Duo US), YS IV, Legend Of Heroes II (PC Engine)...

Does anyone have any experience with the Turbo PC Henshin adapter, or running Japanese System cards on an American TG16? Thank you all for your time, I truly appreciate it

What revision is the PC Henshin you are using? According to the site the System Card will only work on rev D and up.  I considered going this route when I was trying to get a super system card for my TG16 but it seemed cheaper to just region mod my system so I went that route.  It also looks way better when you are playing.

Another solution if you have an everdrive v2 is to run the System Card 3.0 patched rom.  One of our members here patched the system card 3.0 rom to work with the everdrive v2.

It is definitely worth playing the super cd games as there are tons of great games that were made for it.

Three things to try if you haven't already:

1)  clean the huey's contacts thoroughly
2)  adjust how far in the syscard is seated in the adapter's socket
3)  verify the syscard isn't defective by trying it in another system if available

The Turbo PC Henshin is Rev E (I just received it in the mail last week). I've been waiting to play these games since November, but there was the Christmas rush that made the delivery extra slow (the first PC Henshin I received also was not working, but I was upgraded to a Turbo PC Henshin for the inconvenience, which I appreciated).

The weird thing about using the adapter with the Japanese system card is that it will play my regular TG16 CD games without any issues (2.0 and under), but the freezing and black screens only occur with Super CD (or 3.0 and above) games.

I unfortunately do not own an Everdrive (I wanted to try and stay away from the allure of being able to play all TG16 games - let's face it, I'd never go outside again! Lol).

I assume it's reading the syscard rom fine, it's just the ram that isn't being accessed properly, which is why regular CDs work fine (using the base ram in the interface unit) while Super CDs that need the syscard ram fail.

Necromancer, I unfortunately don't have another system to test out the System Card on... would you think that this might be an adapter issue, or a System Card issue? Thank you again for helping me out with this.

Lightly sand the contacts on the card then clean them off and try again.

Hello ProffesorProfessorson, I lightly sanded the System Card 3.0, but I'm unfortunately getting the same result (stuck on the "Now loading..." screen, or a black screen).

As much as I'd like to say "that's why converters suck" it very much sounds like the issue is the card. Luckily it's cheap to replace. I'd recommend just getting an Arcade Card Pro and covering all the basses.

I did originally think about getting my system region-modded, but the appeal of being able to also use the converter on a PC Engine (when I end up eventually getting one lol) seemed appealing to me at the time.

You could mail your 3.0 card to someone trusted on the forum to test.  If it works, your converter sucks a little.  If it doesn't work with SCD games, the card has bad RAM.

Unfortunately it is very hard to even attempt to fix the card, they aren't meant to be peeled apart and almost impossible to get it back together.

I have a TG16 cd setup like yours that is region modded so I could test it for you if you want.  PM me if you want me to test it for you.
