Lords of the Rising Sun - How to win mini games?
« on: April 03, 2016, 04:48:35 PM »
Hey Everyone,

In the game Lords of the Rising sun, does anyone know how to win the mini games!? The battle sequences are simple enough, but the siege sequences and the defence ones are almost impossible?

For the siege sequence, your trying to find the city in the maze, but I swear I've been everywhere and I can't find it. Are there actual maps someone made you can just look at to solve these? It's annoying when you have an overwhelming force, and you just can't win because of a stupid maze.

Same goes for defence parts. When shooting invaders your arrows go so slow and your bow moves so slow. So I find it almost impossible to kill anything, let alone all the people who come at you at the same time. I tried shooting the guy on horseback at the beginning to see if I could just end it right away, but no dice.

Does anyone have some solid tips on this? Or is the game just stupid unfair? Also, assuming I get passed all of these things, does anyone know how to actually build up a force? I'm not sure how to get more troops after you deplete them <shrugs>

I seem to remember that with siege stages things are sort of color/pattern coded. Meaning you can tell you are on the right track when the ground color, trees or other patterns change. I haven't played for a while though so I can't say for sure. The siege stages were my favorite back in the day cause once I had figured out the pattern they were pretty dam easy.

Well, I *think* the manual says that if the road gets bigger, generally your on the right track. But I've spend numerous times going over the maze and the most I've ever gotten was to buildings that just release more people to attack you. :/

Does anyone recall some solid hints, tips, or strategies for how to beat his part? I mean concrete stuff like "You generally want to find rocks, larger paths, then bridges. If you regress to smaller paths, then you definitely don't want to go there", or "The base is always located in the center of the map, so try to head there", etc.

While everyone I talk to means well, no one can seem to remember in detail about this game. Just a lot of "I kind of remember this, but it's been a while ago". lol :-)

I beat this game numerous times on all 3 campaigns(Yoshitsune being the hardest, Kiyomori being really easy).  It's been 15 to 20 years since I did that.  On the bow & arrow, I recall making sure to aim & shoot just below the enemy, I would hit them 90% of the time.  The siege, that's a toughy.  I made it thru them, but there was quite of bit of trial & error of figuring out the route's.  I don't think there are any maps of any kind.  I think they are randomly generated & get larger or smaller, depending on how many troops are in the particular city if I'm remembering right.

Building up troups that you lost should be easy, IIRC, just enter one of your captured cities & you'll heal your army over time.

For the mazes, you'll get used to the red herrings. Don't waste time on enemies.

For archery, shoot where they're going to be.

I didn't get to fight off ninjas regularly enough to figure out a strategy, but make sure to save often.

When chasing generals on horseback, you only need to chop at their ass.

Thanks all for the suggestions! I'm surprised people can do the bow and arrow sections OK. The reason being, the cursor moves so slow that you can't possibly be in position to shoot all the people coming at you. In addition, you can't seem to shoot them as they climb over the wall, only once they are over the other side! (>_<)

Also, as for the mazes I have no idea how to tell when I'm making progress. Perhaps if the mazes were static for each city, I could just brute force them via trial and error?

Once I got the hang of the archery part, I never missed again. Sometimes I'd let some guys make it further to try some challenging shots.

What's odd, is that I recall having no trouble with the horseback parts when I first played thru the game BITD, but when I tried playing a few years later, I had quite a bit of trouble with my horse flipping me off of him.  I don't know what happened to what little bit of skill I had back when I first bought the game...

How is this game?  This is one of the few US games I have never even tried.

It's a must play and has three scenarios.

Just picked this one up a few weeks ago for a good price ($30 complete) over in Eugene Oregon. Can't wait to try it out this weekend.

My poor copy is sorely neglected.  I tried playing it a couple times back when I picked it up, but I couldn't figure out what the f*ck I was doing.  :|

I'm convinced this game is just unfair. I started a game as YORITOMO, let the computer intentionally capture IZU, and then I try to storm the castle with full troops and everything. I literally tried to map it methodically, and still couldn't find the damn exit. Even after multiple attempts and mapping farther and farther, I physically didn't have the time to complete it before the sun goes down.

If anyone can figure out how to beat IZU for example, I'd like to hear it. I'm walking all over the castle but never finding anything, nor finding brick/stone roads or anything that leads me to think I'm making progress. Except for the odd rows of rocks which don't really progress to anything.

If someone can tell me how to beat this castle (with specific directions. Ie, up 2 screens, one left, etc) I'd be interested to hear it. Just for the sake that I can see it for myself and then give up trying to solve the other castles. :-) Most aggravating mini game in my life.

"Just for the sake..."

I love drinking sake whilst playing this game, too.
