here is what TZD posted on their website:

"TZD is out of NEC's Duo AC adapter.

Go to Radio Shack and ask for part #273-1771, then ask for a "Q" tip (don't let them charge you another $4.99, a tip is included. It better be for $20.00.)

The tip must be center positive when you plug it into the adapter. Don't worry this will all be clear once you see the part. It's 9V, 1500mA but no one makes a 10V, 1000mA, it was proprietary to NEC. Your Duo will only draw as much amperage as it needs, so that number is OK. 9V has tested well enough, but TZD assumes no liability (natch.)"

I hope this helps out if no one has a spare one.
Let the old mix with the new.

That is about as good as you are going to do unless you try and get the Japanese one off of ebay, but be prepared to get raped for it man.

So they use the same power supply?  Japan's electrical products work in the U.S. so I guess so.

Find a Mega Drive 2 / Genesis 2 ac-adapter. They are identical to the Duo adapters.

Wow, thanks. As it turns out I have an extra Genesis AC adapter leftover from a model two Genesis that broke some years back.

For me, my Mega Drive AC only works on the coregrafx, but if i use it on the interface unit, it freezes due to power lack.

Really?  Does that for sure work?
I went and purchased a Radio Shack adapter this weekend.  It looked like it had already been returned or refurbished when i bought it and, sure enough, didn't work when I got home.  I took it back put it was the last one.  So they refunded my money and I went to a different Radio Shack but they were sold out so now they're going to send it to me in the mail.  Overall, it's been a pretty big pain in the butt.
For the record, my current Duo works but I want the adapter so I can hook up my gimpy old deck in the living room.
On the plus side, I spliced a new video plug on my broken Duo AV Cable so I don't have to use the loose TZD replacement anymore.

It most certainly does. I have never used my original Duo-R ac-adapter (because it won't fit in my European socket), I'm using one of my MD2-adapters instead. Granted, I don't know if the American Duo uses the same power source as its Japanese counterpart, but I would assume it does.

I picked up a Genesis 2 deck at the thrift store for $3 last month.  It didn't come with any cords so I need to get that adapter anyway, I'll take a look at it.

I have that Radio Shack 273-1771 power supply. Its quite a life saver for NEC systems since they are really current hungry (by today's standards) and need large amperage ratings that can't be found on very many power supplies these days.

However the 273-1771 isn't the right adaptor for a Turbo Duo. The Turbo Duo wants a 10v 1000mA source, and this adaptor is 9V. It will probably run just fine, but for the record I guess it isn't perfect.

It is however perfect for a Duo R, which is what I'm using it on.

Okay, I dug out my extra Genesis model 2 power supply today. It's a 3rd party brand power supply, made by Performance.
Output: 10V 850mA

That's a nice close match for certain. One problem, the plug is smaller than the plug needed to connect up to the Duo.  :(

If I get the chance, I'll head over to Radio Shack tomorrow and see if they have an adapter of some sort to rectify this problem without having to splice on a new plug head.

:)  Alrighty folks. Finally made it over to Radio Shack to pick up the minimal accessories to make a Genesis model 2 adaptor work on the Duo.

Here's the parts list with prices:

Replacement Adaptaplug Socket
Catalog Number: 273-1743
Price: $2.99

Adaptaplug "Q" (Q size plug)
Catalog Number: 273-1720
Price: $4.99

Here the deal. Radio Shack does not have "Q" size adaptor plugs available in anything other than the Adaptaplug product line, hence the purchase of the first listed item.

With these two parts you could cut the existing plug head off the Genesis adaptor and splice on the "Q" setup, however, I have no intention of ruining my Genesis adaptor in order to create a Turbo Duo adaptor. My plan is to return to Radio Shack tomorrow and purchase a socket that the Genesis plug fits so that I can use the three combined Radio Shack parts to make a nice little adaptor cable. I'll post more tomorrow night.

Radio Shack does not make or carry a "C" size adapter socket, the size the Genesis plug needs. Looks like I'll be splicing the wire after all.

Has anyone found a cheaper solution or another compatible power adapter?

*edit*

I found another thread and was able to track these down (sorry for the multiple posts)

Found a cheaper version of the 1300ma powerline adaptor sold directly from amazon, it's a few bucks cheaper and you can get faster shipping :) http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00CWR39TI/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I also found a Q type adaptaplug $2.50 shipped on ebay
