« on: May 13, 2016, 02:19:32 PM »
this: http://www.ebay.com/ulk/itm/262435725926

i messaged the seller asking what happens when this is inserted in his TGCD hes selling.  he said card games work, but this SS card just gives a white screen.  take it for what its worth, just sharing what he told me.

Yeah, saw that auction too.  I always wonder how something can be untested when they have all the parts to the system to test it with.  One of his other auctions is a TG16 with dock, cd and all cords.  In this auction he mentions that the cd doesn't spin, which is a common problem.  But, if he tested this system, wouldn't he have tested the card too?

I had a problem some years back with a Super System Card just giving me a white screen.  If I pulled the card out just a little bit it began to work fine.  Perhaps that was the same problem as this guy had...?

I have a system card 3.0 (JP) that works in both the Core Grafx consoles that I own, but it won't work in any of the PC Engine consoles that I own.

The Turbo Super CD card has been strictly a collectors item for years and has been made obsolete as a functional system card worth more than $10.

To pay as much as $100 for a damaged ratty old loose card which is being sold as-is, is a total failure and you should be ashamed to dare call yourself a collector.

Yeah no reason to buy that card unless you just want a trophy that looks just like the japan card.  If you want to play super cd on a US TG16 cd you have so many options now.

- Region mod so you can use the japanese cards.
- Japan system card 3.0 or arcade card with a chopsado
- Everdrive v2.4 with US rom patched by Elmer.

You forgot the cheapest and most common method. Play on PC Engine hardware.

There is no reason to use a Turbo system other than as a novelty (which I do myself).

You are cruel, comrade.

You could just as easily argue that playing on JP hardware is the novelty.

There are many viable options (as noted above).

That's kind of shady of the seller to not put the info about loading a white screen into the ebay description.

Damn, $0.80?  I paid about $3 for my JP SS card a year ago and I thought I got a good price.

Turbo hardware costs more than PC Engine hardware and plays 200+ fewer games. Mods to Turbo and PCE hardware cost the same. Plus as far as efficiency and convenience goes, the Turbo-CD combo is much heavier and larger. You can make Turbo hardware as functional as PCE hardware, but you're going to pay a premium of $100 - $200 for the novelty. Which alone is enough to just straight up buy the PC Engine equivalent hardware. :P

If I insist on only playing games on a LaseActive setup with a Turbo Pak, it's not the most efficient and cost effective setup. I'm doing it for the novelty of it.

Again, I say this as the kind of "hardcore" fan who pays a premium for the privilege of playing an LT, SuperGrafx, fully modified PCE and Turbo combos.

We get too many 1 post-count people coming through here and similar people asking on various other forums, how to get the TG-16 they bought for only $80 at a flea market to play all of the CD games. The short answer is $500, but what we typically tell people is that trying to save money by building off of a base of what you mistakenly purchased is an paradox and you should just buy a PCE Duo and either keep the TG-16 for TurboChips or sell it to pay for a region mod/TED.

I agree with almost all of your statement, but using the LA to play Turbo/PCE stuff is actually pretty efficient if you are also using it as your Genesis/MD/SegaCD as well.  The size of the LA + 2 PACs is a much more compact footprint than the two separate devices, plus you can front load Genny carts, so less vertical space required as well!

Yes, there are cheaper ways to play, but it's quite nice to have everything in one unit if you've already got one.  The only thing you're missing out on really is the option for the 32X library with a LA setup, but that can be fixed.

I had a LaserActive. I got rid of it because of how inconvenient it is. :P

It completely dwarfed my CDX and Duo combined. It's impossible to integrate with an entertainment or TV stand, has poor video quality and it costs a fortune to ship to someone to have it serviced. They're heavy and will gouge anything you accidentally bump while lugging it around. The LaserActive/Sega Pak combo is also incompatible with the 32X. Some haters might say something to the effect of, "well, you wouldn't be missing out on much!" But what would the same people say about the LaserActive LD2/Mega-LD library?

I have a Virtua Fighter 2 arcade board in the metal housing and setting it up with a supergun totally reminds me of dealing with the LaserActive.

Anybody still have pics of that homemade 'every console-in-one' wooden monstrosity that they can post to show xelement5x the ultimate setup for gaming convenience?

My US Super System Card also needs to be slightly adjusted before it works. I think this might be something that just affects the thing for some reason, though I am a loss to explain exactly why this would occur.
