Yeah no reason to buy that card unless you just want a trophy that looks just like the japan card. If you want to play super cd on a US TG16 cd you have so many options now.
- Region mod so you can use the japanese cards.
- Japan system card 3.0 or arcade card with a chopsado
- Everdrive v2.4 with US rom patched by Elmer.
You forgot the cheapest and most common method. Play on PC Engine hardware.
There is no reason to use a Turbo system other than as a novelty (which I do myself).
You are cruel, comrade.
You could just as easily argue that playing on JP hardware is the novelty.
There are many viable options (as noted above).
Turbo hardware costs more than PC Engine hardware and plays 200+ fewer games. Mods to Turbo and PCE hardware cost the same. Plus as far as efficiency and convenience goes, the Turbo-CD combo is much heavier and larger. You can make Turbo hardware as functional as PCE hardware, but you're going to pay a premium of $100 - $200 for the novelty. Which alone is enough to just straight up buy the PC Engine equivalent hardware.
If I insist on only playing games on a LaseActive setup with a Turbo Pak, it's not the most efficient and cost effective setup. I'm doing it for the novelty of it.
Again, I say this as the kind of "hardcore" fan who pays a premium for the privilege of playing an LT, SuperGrafx, fully modified PCE and Turbo combos.
We get too many 1 post-count people coming through here and similar people asking on various other forums, how to get the TG-16 they bought for only $80 at a flea market to play all of the CD games. The short answer is $500, but what we typically tell people is that trying to save money by building off of a base of what you mistakenly purchased is an paradox and you should just buy a PCE Duo and either keep the TG-16 for TurboChips or sell it to pay for a region mod/TED.
