Mega Zone (Konami) @ forgotten @under-appreciated @ice-rink @fell in love with vertz shooterz
Time Soldiers (SNK) @forgotten @under-appreciated @deli-down-the-block @will never happen because you need dual rotating joysticks
Karnov (Data East) @you want to use all the items you acquire @this is the only Karnov @Famicom/NES port is fantastic, so PCE version should be MAGNIFICENT.
As an owner of a Battlefield (Time Soliders) pcb, I must say I really don't care for it. Some good idea, but really flawed execution. And it's actually an ADK, not SNK game. However a proper PCE port of Ikari and Victory Road would be pretty damn sweet.
Wow, it was ADK? My memory sucks. I could have sworn it was SNK.
I haven't really played (arcade cab) since....1988? It was at the local deli...it was a blast to play.
Here's want I liked:
Constant action
Constant changing stages/themes (time periods)
Sweet controls (nicely executed)
Blasting the crap out of everything on the screen, from all directions, was great!
I played with friends frequently, which was really nice (yet another way to enjoy the game...a really nice co-op experience)
Characters moved faster and unloaded weapons faster than Ikari Warriors (another game we played all the time), so Time Soldiers was like MS PAC MAN to Ikari Warriors' PAC MAN (if you get the analogy).
I haven't played arcade Victory Road in a long time (I have NES port)...but I really enjoyed it, too. However, I still maintain that Time Soldoers had a swifter (and dare I say more satisfying!?) feel and flow to it.
Ikari Warrior + Victory Road are great, but the pacing is very different. I appreciate deliberate and controlled pacing...but sometimes you just want adrenaline rush (Time Warriors was released at a time when most of its kin were slower/plodding).
This is why I love Gun.Smoke...swift, solid game. Really refreshing when it came out, and holds up well, even in 2016.
