WTB: Atari Lynx or Atari 7800 (NTSC) consoles
« on: May 24, 2016, 03:00:46 PM »
Looking for a complete Atari 7800 (NTSC) system.  Should include 2 controllers, hookups, and a game or two.

Additionally, I am after an Atari Lynx in good cosmetic and working condition.
Prefer the original Lynx 1, but I'll take either at this point.

Hey, the Lynx is an amazing piece of hardware!  I have one that might be suitable that I'll check tonight; if it is I will contact you.

If you get a Lynx and are willing to spend a fair amount on it, consider contacting McWill on Atariage forum for LCD replacement.  It is a huge difference between 30 year old stock LCD and today's LCD and McWill makes custom board with new LCD that fits into Atari Lynx just perfectly. A few wires to solder in.

Also keep an eye on AA forum, there's an SD based flash cart coming through (like Everdrive but not by Krikzz) that will play most games.  Some of the games can be expensive to get.

I can second how much better the McWill kit looks, but I will definitely caution that the mod is a TOTAL PAIN IN THE ASS with a Lynx I.  I can't comment on how hard it is with a Lynx II, but the Lynx I was not a trivial install.

Don't forget one of these so you can get 20(!) hours of battery life. It even has a belt clip, how convenient.

I'm a stickler for unmodded and untampered consoles.
I prefer the experience to be as close to stock as possible.  It's more pure that way.

Bartre, suck my left one :)

I enjoy playing games on stock consoles, too. With a CRT.

It's part of the experience, for us.

We are not forcing you to change...and as I get older, I have become increasingly curious about modding stuff.

I still have my Lynx II system and recently played it.  The screen on mine has not aged well.  Looks like crap compared to anything portable that was made in the last 15 years.  Ordering one of McWill's kits has been on my To-Do list for a while to breath some old life back into the system.  if you look at some of the youtube videos and compare his screen to the original screen, the difference is night and day.  Well worth the money in my opinion.

I remember there was a whole aisle of Lynx in a toys r us near me. Nobody ever looked at it except me and that was just to pass the time. You could leave it weeks or months between visits and nothing would change. I don't know why they carried it for so long. I knew nobody that had one. My dad decided to get me and my brother a game boy each. A decision I respect to this day.
