Can y'all stop getting your panties in a twist over the 'collectard' moniker?

I'm making one post in this thread, this is it. I can't find the time to shit on every collectard these days because the f*ckers are crawling out of the sewers and getting accounts faster than I can flame them. Seriously, where are they coming from? Is the youth of today really this lost? Don't they still make motorcycles and rock music and chicks? I'm genuinly sad.

Anyway, f*ck this guy, obviously. But also, f*ck all of YOU too because what this guy wants more than anything is validation. Obviously his primary means of achieving this is burying himself in old video game crap which is worshipful to people who get mad about Ghostbusters and look at shrinkwrap under a microscope to try to understand it. But when that fails the length of this thread fills in some gaps by letting him be the self designated martyr/hero for the NA mentality. Just look at how long his responses are. He *needs* this criticism to keep him going. You're feeding his teeny weeny little underdeveloped homunculus five pages of collectard junk food.

You must be a talented therapist if you think people desire criticism, heh. In reality, I just wanted people to PM me if they had the stuff I needed, but I knew the risk of course, as people can't help but try and meddle.

I'm inclined to agree with zeta that you revel in the attention.  If you didn't want it, you'd have locked the thread and dealt solely in PMs.

I enjoy some positive attention like any other, but no I don't revel in negative attention. My reason for responding is that i'm not the type to roll over in a one on one discussion, but do consider 20 people dog piling gang style to be a futile effort. I very much do not agree with the approach of some of the users here, and believe that if a person doesn't speak back, will continue to help fortify that individuals belief that they are 'correct'.

Of course, I operate more so in a live and let live world and accept most people for their nuance, however I would genuinely have preferred the topic to just be information, trades, and friendly banter rather than half of it being filled with venom. I'd rather someone comment that this game is super fun than to hope my family dies. If someone comes and says hey, I prefer emulation and don't want to spend money on physical items, I don't jump down their throat and preach about the legality and lack of authenticity, etc that such a method brings. I just understand we all do things for different reasons, and unless someone ask me for my specific thoughts on that subject, i'll just accept you're not me

Thankfully, I have had a few nice discussions either privately, or some kinder words thrown my way by others, so I don't consider it entirely toxic, just more so than i'm used to. I certainly don't live in a world where i'd prefer to be hated than liked, and I seriously doubt almost anyone would think that way. Of course, I don't really care about the feelings of people who would act that way at first contact, as I seriously doubt such behavior would be acceptable to them face to face, but the internet lets people bring out their true personality without fear of repercussion, as usual.

Just because you manage to scare off 'collectard a$$holes' or whatever by the dozens doesn't suddenly make you the majority voice, it just makes you the only ones still yelling. If this community is satisfied being reclusive and difficult to approach for people like me then I can't help that, but in the end i'm sure most of us deep down would rather all be friends, as long as our enthusiasm is rooted in the right place (with mine being to learn about and play these games, and to obtain all the ones I want asap to stem the bleeding it's causing my bank account)

I like that you have responded civilly in this thread. I also don't mind reading posts that elaborate on your rationale/philosophy.

At the end of the day, it comes down to this: if you have a better understanding of this forum and its culture, then we are happy.

You may not agree with us, but at least you will understand our perspective.

2 points that people didn't take to you.

You are new. which we are always weary of newer members. Esp. after the millionth time getting a re-seller in here to just flip out good deals on fleabay. So its more dirty people than us honestly. Respect is earned, not given, and we don't hold your hand every time you get offended (You seem to be able to take one and not QQ Rage quit)

You came in here, wanting to buy up Rare games that some of our senior members are looking for, want them for a deal, and maybe only after that point did you want to talk about them. While you belly ache at Burning games, and actually finding games you enjoy, you just want to hoard and leech off the community.

My biggest issue is that if/when you fall out of your whole Turbo fab. Non of that Jello shit he sold you will make it back to here. It will go to fleabay, and more of the small amount of stuff is gone forevers.

I could give two shits if you have many games. or you collect them. My problem is the way you do it, and how you have not shown respect for the games, and how this community operates. You just wave money around and sit on your high horse. Buying shit in private and not talking to everyone here about anything Related or non related to Turbo.

That's your own fault for dropping 3.6k on games right out the gate.

That was hardly out of the gate to be fair, I first began playing on this system about a year ago and mostly found some stuff in random trades or of course eBay, and in fact the person I dealt with here was someone I got into contact with elsewhere and simply used this forum as a (quite appropriate) place to continue communication.

Plus, if I listed all the stuff I got, i'm sure most would agree the games are quite good, I'm not personally sure if the system has expensive bad games, but if it does, I have no desire to own them. This is something that I think does separate me from a lot of collectors, you have people wanting to spend 5k on a copy of cheetahman II, but i'd not want that in my presence, scarcity is only neat when it's applied to something I enjoy. Again, just me though.

Admittedly, I didn't get to dive into the system as much or as in depth as i'd like but, I do have a lot of things on my plate like most, and considering how much work it took just to.. Find a system that can play the supercd and turboCD titles, it's been by far the most prohibitive system i've ever encountered. It was thanks to a kind soul here that I was able to obtain a clean and functional, modded Turboduo though, but again, no one else seemed to be taking it off his hands, so I don't really see the harm in that.

If you're a seller looking to get (more or less) face value here, I would imagine you would be mocked and belittled for that as well, this is just my guess though, as I sense the higher price of some of these games seems to cause quite a bit of (admittedly logical) tension. Like most things in life, this is just a fluid hobby that you either have to try and catch the wave or get left behind, as much as people keep telling me some bubble is going to burst, each year I wait is more money i've lost not going for something sooner. It almost seems like some people would think it's smarter to buy one game at a time and just cross your fingers to find that other game again, as if TG16 games are just plentiful to find.. They're like diamonds, not literally worth their price, but demand will likely keep them pricey, so for those of us who really want to have them, we get bent over.

I do understand the mutual culture of giving deals and thus, distributing deals yourself, or goodwill as it is. With that being said, I have not really scored any sort of amazing deal using this forum, it really has been basically eBay(ish) pricing but with minor bulk/fee based discounts. I definitely would be down to sell them here but i'd not give them away just as they weren't given to me, you know?

Also, I do not plan to ever sell my collection unless I'm dying or become disabled. In fact, I've been in the process of determining who would inherit the stuff in the event of my death, and in the case I died before my fiancee, I have documented everything I have with their various issues or unique traits (such as, a modded turbo duo vs a standard one, she doesn't know much about this stuff) so that she could sell it in case of financial hardship, but she wants to keep it as well. Barring financial or health disasters, I hope to grow old playing this stuff. I'm not exactly young so I don't imagine just getting bored of it.

Don't shade the truth.  The only reason it was "difficult" was because you limited yourself to a TurboDuo with RGB mod.
