Let's talk about collection/compilation games.


Your Midway Arcade Treasures, Campcom Classics, and Sonic Classic Collection (which oddly had various sega Genesis games with some arcade ports as well).

I am a sucker for these type of compilations. I see one and I typically have to have it.

Especially since my wife said I could buy a few games for Father's Day while at a retro store. Considering my recent pitches I wasn't intending to buy jack. But meh. Father's Day. f*ck it lets roll.


Picked up:

Midway Arcade Treasures Vol 2 & 3 for the PS2
And Capcome Classicics Vol 1 (PS2)

They where two for ten. So that was a easy buy.

Granted as I looked at the games listed I couldn't help but try and remember someone saying a OC Engine exclusive game (port of a arcade game) with the main protagonists a female warrior had a PS2 collection port as well. Hell if I can remember what game it was honestly.

The Wonderboy/Monster World set for PS2 is one of the best. Lots of artwork, soundtests, custom video output, etc.

That was a Jp exclusive no?  I belive they had a few good Hudson exclusives as well.

the capcom, taito, and midway discs have all gotten a lot of airplay in my house.
the activision 2600 comp on the ps1 was terrible, even for 2600 games.
dont forget superspike v'ball/world cup soccer on NES.  does that count?  lol

I'd say they count. It was a compilation for the NES. In fact I think there were only two or three NES compilations games.  Well not counting the Mario duck hunt and Mario duck hunt and world track games.

I still have my Mega Man X Collection for PS2.

Namco Museum 1,2,3,4,5.The PS1 version i still see it as the best version of the compilations compared to the later ones.

Yeah, I've bought a ton of these myself. The low point is probably the Data East collection; I've never heard of most of the games on it, several for good reason.

Sega has actually done multiple collections. I think you're thinking of Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection, which was a pretty good one. They did also do a pure Sonic collection, a small collection of leftovers that weren't in that, an older general Genesis collection, and even a collection of remakes they'd done for their Sega Ages line. I don't think any of those are worth tracking down if you already have Ultimate Genesis Collection.

While there wasn't much I wanted to play in vol. 3, I liked the first two Midway Arcade Treasures. I'm a big Capcom fan, too, so I made sure to get both volumes of Capcom Classics. Some really good stuff on those.

Picked up Tecmo arcade classics today and man, they should've made an NES classics instead. Tecmo Bowl? More like 10 yard fight.

ADK Tamashii is pretty hot. Mainly for Ninja Master's.

I didn't think the Data East collection was that bad, I too am a big fan of these games.  They are somewhat less necessary in 2016, compared to say a time with Ninja Gaiden Trilogy SNES came out, but still can be fun.

I was playing the Midway Arcade Classics on my Saturn just the other day for some reason...

I should probably give it more time. Looking back at the list of games, it has some better stuff than I remembered off the top of my head. I was thinking about Wizard Fire, which I'd played most recently, that seems to expect you to be familiar with Dark Seal, to which it's a sequel. Unfortunately, I'd never heard of either, and Dark Seal isn't in the collection. Hilarious voice acting, though.

Konami GB Collections.  There were 4 volumes, each with 4 games per cart.  Only released in Japan and Europe.

The European releases added color to their original Gameboy titles such as Operation C, Castlevania Adventure, Belmont's Revenge, Parodious, Nemesis, and more.  If you're into Gameboy, it's kind of cool to see these classics with more color.

These have already been mentioned but capcom classics and the sega mega collection are very good value. Unless you have roms and are happy with that.
I had a couple of sonic collections on GameCube too.
