Admit it... You're playing Pokemon Go.

I gave in and tried it. Got bored in 2 days though. Either I'm doing it wrong or there really isn't much to it.

I think it is more fun if you live in a city (easy to visit new places) or when traveling.

For the past week, every time I bring my family to a new location, my daughter and her friends are fully-engrossed in their phones.

They are searching for any new developments in Pokemon AHOY!

...and I was so happy when SQUIRTLE appeared at the lighthouse/beach, since I had been joking about that ridiculous name for years ("Take a SQUIRTLE in the restroom before we go in the car.")

I'm not playing, so this is all an outsider's viewpoint.
about 1/2 of my coworkers are into it, and holy shit are they in it deep.
2 hour walks after the shift is over (I work in a bar, so they've already been running around 8+ hours)
that just seems insane to me.

additionally, the local facebook pokemon go group had a meetup at the bar I work at tonight.
The final count of people that showed up (not all at once) was 570-ish.
fire code allows us 240.
we totally did not follow fire code.
the best part? no one really talked to each other, all faces were buried in phones.

After my gf and I had a nice romantic walk by the waterfront last weekend surrounded by 1000 other poke hunters, we got home and I gave her the poke balls.  I think this game is a bonding too / aphrodisiac.

Not the newest one. There are no RPG components. No conversing with brain-dead NPCs. Just wandering around on a real-world map, in real life, collecting Pokemon. In fact, the only battling in the game is for territory control (controlling Gyms). So in a way, this is a collecting and territory control game. Certainly not child-unfriendly, but not child-only, either.

As I walk my dog I see so many people strolling around looking at their phones. A lot of car horns blowing too.

Ah yeah, that guy! PCEFX's mascot. Nice of him to have trashed our forums right in front of Victor Ireland... :/

That's exactly what I've noticed too. My friend always defends it with "but it's connecting people and it's fun and blahblahblah". At this point it's no better than Facebook messenger, you're just jumping through more hoops and walking more. I hope to hell that this is a fad but people go apeshit over Pokemon stuff.

Also if one more person asks me if I play I might shit my pants out of anger

I wouldn't hate pokémon for what it is but the problem is that this generation feels like it is too self absorbed. Pokémon go just amplifies it...

Pokémon Go's idea is good but in practice you have people disregarding their surroundings over some virtual pokémon in their screen's cellphone. Also, you have a lot of people playing it right now because it is the current fad, if Nintendo doesn't give substance to the game they can expect the userbase (and their stock prices) to freefall in the next months.

Yeah, you have a good point. I don't hate it for what it is, it is not a bad idea. I just hate that the other day while I was driving in a suburb, some girl almost walked into the middle of the street because she had her head in her phone. Obviously this is a much deeper problem than just the game itself, but like you said, it's not helping the situation much.

I've seen quite a few peeps (about half of 'em parents with little kids) wandering around the local lake searching for Pokemons.  It's nice to see more people enjoying the outdoors, even if they're spending more time staring at the screen instead of the real geese, ducks, eagles, deer, etc.
