One thing I will always fight folks on...the NA TG-16 hardware is not ugly. The Genesis/MegaDrive especially with a cart in...is just a goofy looking thing (a giant wart). Even the ugly SNES looks better (a first-aid kit for preschoolers).
The NA TG-16 suffers from being a *curiously elongated* (that's a fancy way of saying "stretched") version of the PCE we cherish.
Thoughts from the DBLbruno?
This is an interesting topic...
I love the looks of older consoles. I think most electronics from the 80s and 90s had a lot of character. They are like teens going through puberty- very awkward and trying to find themselves...
For the snes I like the design of the mini though I will say the feel is a bit on the cheap side. I like the stand alone model 2 Genesis however I will admit that the model 1 with Sega cd attached is a very good look. As for the tg16 I agree that the pcengine looks sleeker but it doesn't bother me too much.
Like I mentioned. I think they all have their own character.
Good answer. I agree that the "personality" makes the aesthetic design fun.
I love the SMS, with or without cart, I love the angular, Egyptian monolith that has toppled over.
SFC> SNES...but I still like the look of the SNES more than many other consoles.
I love Famicom console as a platform, but it looks goofy to me (just as Mega Drive looks goofy).
