Magical Chase the Windows 95 version!!
« on: July 26, 2016, 07:43:20 AM »
I don't check eBay (or Yahoo.jp) much these days for games, but yesterday I went on eBay and had a surf about and saw Magical Chase Windows 95 version for sale!! http://www.ebay.com/itm/232022492770
this is crazy rare, that is literally the only one I have ever seen for sale.
I'm not encouraging anyone to buy it, that particular seller has a very shady history of selling high priced fake Neo Geo Aes games such as Metal Slug. Oh before someone says there's two on eBay
http://www.ebay.com/itm/282108928742 that's alt accounts of the same one seller, selling one item, route7nakano and tokyotoyfactory are the same seller.

I wonder how the game plays, if there is any differences between Windows 95 and the PC Engine or TurboGrafx versions.

I am intrigued, buy it and let us know how it is!

EDIT: quick google search turned up the iso with a patch if you want to download and try it for yourself

I've not yet played it myself (though I downloaded the ISO months ago), but others have reported that it's essentially the PCE game, using the same music and without the US version graphical updates.

That price is pretty lulzy to me.  I feel like anything that is even remotely related to Magical Chase somehow gets a price bump "just because".

The ISO would be neat to play with at least though!

It's just PCE magical chase running on a custom emulator for PC much like EGG did for Valis collection on PC. Same shit, nothing special.

$250 would be about what it's worth normally when it pops up on yahoo and other JP sites

For years I used to search Yahoo.jp every day and I never saw it once, let alone ever on eBay.
In fact I know of gaijin who've been living in Japan for 15 years and have never once seen a copy.
This a truly rare item. Or maybe it was a rare item, I've been out the loop of buying and searching for games for a few years now, maybe these days it has become more common.

Considering it the same exact pictures yeah duplicate listing.

However it seems for NA he has it at a 30% discount lol. Sigh. I'll just stick with my PCE copy. Maybe a rom on my everdrive if I ever want to play the NA port.

Yeah, it's nothing too special.  100% identical to the PCE game.  Only difference is that it runs in 640x480, so depending on your monitor/tv it might look better then when played on a PCE.  It runs totally fine for me in Win 7 64bit.   You just need to run the installer in compatibility mode and the game will only run in 256 colors.

Price wise, it pops up here in Japan often enough and usually goes for $100 or so.

In your reality I bet you see ten a day, and you picked one up in the bargain bin for 100 yen.

I installed it on my PC-98 laptop, played for 5 min then realized I could just play it on my PCE and played that instead

Serious question: is the emulation really good, then?

Is this the earliest example of PCE emulation on a computer platform?

Do we have examples of other early emulation from the 90's?
