Oh man, buy buy buy. One of the best RPGs ever made in terms of story, pacing, and play mechanic. So groundbreaking for the time.

They are awesome but unfortunately they are both sold.  I did beat 1&2 for Sega CD in my teens.  So good.

Yeah you should rectify this dire emergency quickly NightWolve. I actually started with Lunar 2 first as well.

Yeah, I should've bought it at a Game Stop I saw it at once years ago for $15 used. I was gonna return, but I kinda let the thought pass. "Lunar 2: Eternal Blue" I bought from a Target new for $79.99, one of the few times I paid that much for a game. I really enjoyed it along with the extra bloopers CD, but sucks that I skipped ahead. Still haven't touched my other Working Designs PS1 title, "Arc the Lad Collection."

Ah, interesting, and I heard about the complaints such that the Sega CD versions are truly the best.

Those comments are mainly from purists. I prefer the PS1 versions, but I can see the merits of both sides. What it boils down to is there were some story changes, some people really don't like them. The first Lunar iirc had way more changes to it than the 2nd, for whatever reason. There are some other minor things too, like the world map being shrunk down for the PS1 versions. For some reason I think that really bothered some people. Personally I liked that there were no random battles on the world map in the PS1 version. Been awhile since I've played any of them though, so my memory may be a little hazy.

Btw Arc II is awesome. Arc I is pretty good, but required playing for the 2nd. The third one, meh, I wouldn't bother.

I prefer the original Lunar games myself, and for me it's not due to the story of which I can't even remember much of either one.  I really loved the digital animation and style of the Sega CD games, which could also see in Urusei Yatsura: Stay with You (also by GameArts).  This has got to be an arguing point, but the new fully animated sequences they used on the Playstation versions just didn't have the same magic for me as the originals.  The art just had more of a homogenized feeling overall.  I was a big fan of Toshiyuki Kubooka's artwork between the Lunar games and Giant Robo, and I just feel like it came through in a more appealing way in the originals.  Just my opinion!

I think that the original Lunar SS feels like a very incomplete overly ambitious game that got kicked out the door far too early. Lunar EB for Sega/Mega-CD is great though.

I got Lunar SSS when it came out for Saturn and really like it, but can't play the butchered Playstation version. Lunar SSSC for Saturn is the best version of Silver Star games.

I assume the Saturn version is all in Japanese correct?

For the record Lunar EB (for Sega CD) is the only one I own currently and I'm basing most of my fond memories on it.  I definitely liked it more than SSS, even though I have (once upon a time) beaten a friend's copy of SSS as well.

You guys are making me want to lug out my scd and play Lunar EB tonight.

@Black Tiger: I've never played the Saturn version, could you explain the differences between SSS and SSSC?

Does anyone have Lunar 1 and/or 2 for Sega CD they would want to trade?  I doubt it but I figured I would at least ask.
