Turbo express lcd replacement guide needed ASAP.
« on: August 10, 2016, 09:40:36 AM »
I picked up a broken Turbo Express the other day and plan on recapping it, but the lcd needs replaced since it's cracked. I've spent a while searching Google and also found nothing in the modification section, where are the guides for upgrading the LCD to a 3.5"? I finally found 1 by using the search function, but all images were gone and replaced with Asian ads of some sort.

Please, someone point me in the right direction. It gets delivered in a few days and I'd like to make sure I have everything. I've already ordered a 3.5" lcd and a cap kit.

Thank you in advance!

Hi there!

I am in the same situation and since the mod is quite hardcore I think I will follow this path:
http://www.pcenginefx.com/forums/index.php?topic=21256.0

In case you prefer to follow the hardcore path...

Good luck!

Thanks, but I can't believe the lack of information there is on this mod. If I get my 3.5" screen installed and working, maybe I'll try and do a write up on it.

Maybe because I've not installed the 3.5" display yet.

May stick with the new 2.4" one I put in looks OK.

Why dont you do it it's just hacking the plastic.

But one little slip and it's .........

I have some boards as shown in another thread.

Ive just received a 3.5" screen for a reversing camera and it's total crap.
Suppose to be 640 x 234 but not.
And a really noisy picture.

The other one I have is ten time better.

I guess these screens are a bit hit or miss.

this is the original hard mod thread started by theSteve. http://pcengine.freeforums.org/express-gt-composite-t179.html It is a pretty complicated job for anyone who has only done basic soldering. So if you're not good with soldering very small pins then you can easily damage your system. You have to desolder a few tiny pins on the main video chip, ground them, and also solder in some resistors and a transistor.

also, it's become increasingly difficult to find compatible screens for this modification as of late which is why a lot of people are staying away from doing the modification now. lots of the cheaper screens from China that are available all look the same on the outside when they have completely different internals. I've ordered some good ones in the past, only to order the exact same brand from the exact same supplier one month later and have them be completely different inside with the same housing.

Looks like this one maybe one of those.
There are three holes on the rear for buttons but no buttons.

The picture is pants and I guess the composite filtering is non existent.

Seen some 640 x 480 VGA/comp screens but they are overpriced.

How much for a board?
