Just curious. I think for most people here it's probably when they bought the system. Maybe a specific game like Ys or Rondo of Blood? I think it's important to reminiscence.

For me, it was probably when I first played Mr. Heli. I had some experience with Turbografx games on the Wii, but I had some pretty iffy games like JJ and Jeff. Eventually, I first got my Coregrafx bundle. I was impressed by the size of the tiny HuCards. Then, I popped in this game with a little orange chopper and I was hooked. The colors, twinkly sounds and the unique game design really pulled me in. The jazzy stage 2 theme was incredible. Every stage in that game was carefully designed. Even today, it's one of my favorite games of all time.

The iconic waterfall level in Bonk 2 was pretty magical. And the first time I became "butthead Bonk", I felt unstoppable! I know the Turbografx isn't known for platformers, but damn this shit was cool.

Recently I was playing Ys IV, and the jazzy tune on the snowy mountain was quite captivating. That final boss was insanely cool and powerful. A much better game than Link to the Past.

Yeah, when I bought my Turbo Duo with the 5 pack-in game deal for $99, popped in "Ys Book I & II" and was blown away by the cinematic introduction, the soundtrack, and the grand fun I had playing it all the way through! The comparable experience about the same time was "Final Fantasy IV" on my SNES which by that time I had beaten maybe 4 times over. Great story and loved listening to the music!

Keith Courage was probably the first for me, judge me if you must but that whole rainbow mech transformation was awesome to me at the time!  First time the Turbo snagged me and showed me the style of games I could expect.  I got games on release as they trickled out, and I remember Bonk's Adventure, Bonk's Revenge, and Dragon's Curse in particular being pretty magical experiences.

I think the real deal is when the Duo came out, and I was completely into all the pack-in games.  I had been drooling over the promotional magazine they released for months and I was particularly taken with the screenshots of Ys I&II.  I had a job with my then brother in law mowing lawns, so I was able to save up my own money and actually earn it myself.  Between the satisfaction in that and the suspense leading up to actually getting the thing, I was really stoked.  The pay off was awesome too, because between Ys I&II, Ninja Spirit, and Gate of Thunder alone, you really got some awesome games.  Bonk's Adventure and Revenge I already had on Hucard, but cool editions nonetheless.  I didn't have Bomberman though, so that was also cool.  So much value packed into that box!  I would play GoT with my Brother-in-law when he came by for hi-scores, and at night I'd work on Ys.  I was totally blown away by the full screen character portraits and voice acting, CD audio in games was new to me at the time.  I will always regard the original Duo release as one of the best pack-in values in the history of games, not only did you get a lot of them, they were also all outstanding games.

Without even playing it, at the firsts pics of the console and games I saw in a magazine back in 89. Especially Gunhed and Shinobi.

On the Gaming side, as soon as I pushed the run button on Gate of Thunder.

Agreed 100%, it was before ever playing.  I mentioned Nick Arcade in another thread recently, but I recall seeing some TG16 games on that show and my kid jaw hit the floor.

Blazing Lazers turned out to be even more amazing than it looked and sounded...

For me it was that promotional video my cousins got in the mail in early 1990.  13 year old me was so amazed at that video and how much better the games looked than my nes.  Then that summer when I got the system with bonk and keith courage I was hooked.  I been fond of the system ever since and it's been awesome being on here finding out about games I have never played before.

The two games that really did it for me were Bonk and Bloody Wolf.  Bonk was so well done and Bloody Wolf just seemed so much cooler than anything on the NES.  Like it was made for adults.

Based on in-store sampling and magazine coverage, I knew it was good and I wanted to buy one, but I wasn't really floored until I brought the Duo home and started up Ys I & II.

One moment that stands out for me was when I first saw in person a PC Engine GT and Street Fighter II CE.  Around '93 when Street Fighter II was the big rage, I was at a local anime convention and someone had a PC Engine GT with Street Fighter II CE.  There was a good sized crowd of maybe 10-12 people surrounding a dude with a PCE GT handheld trying to get a glimpse of him playing 2 button SFII.

Everyone was amazed and the idea of playing a portable version of SFII was mind blowing back then.  I already had a Turbografx at that point but I was so impressed with the portability of the PCE GT and how awesome SFII looked and played on it.

I was on a road trip to Seattle in '93 with SFII' on my TE and had a similar experience.

Two moments:

1st: Store kiosk with Blazing Lazers playing, I was blown away...

2nd: Ys1&2 intro for the first time, shit was magical...still is.

Back before I owned a system and had just seen commercials and demos tapes at stores I really though footage of Bonk fighting the boss from level 1 looked amazing because of the size of the boss and the quality of the graphics, Splatterhouse blew me away with it's awesome cover (the game looked cool too but the cover made want it so bad, it had the same appeal as all of those big-boxed horror movies that I couldn't rent), and my mind was blown when I saw the Turbo Express because it could play the same games as the home console. Playing Bonk's Adventure and Splatterhouse years after the fact was very satisfying, they didn't disappoint at all.

Keith Courage was probably the first for me, judge me if you must but that whole rainbow mech transformation was awesome to me at the time!

When I finally got my system and popped in Keith Courage I felt the same and knew that the whole thing had been a wise purchase.

just seeing the first pictures of the console was enough to flame the desires of owning this machine!
