CD ROM 2 won't stop spinning
« on: September 01, 2016, 04:34:16 PM »
Hey everyone I am new here. I was avoiding posting, but I really need some help. I have a working PC Engine and Interface Unit, they work great.

My cd rom 2 though has a unique problem, as soon as it's plugged in the disc spins at full speed continuously. I can't find any way to stop it. Any ideas guys? I've had it taken apart and haven't noticed anything obvious.

I'm very handy and could probably fix it if I knew the problem.

Does this happen even before you hit play or run?

The instant it's plugged in or the IFU is on it starts spinning and the buttons do nothing. Thanks for that link, it's given me a place to start. All the search turned up was no spinning problems, and I have the opposite.

Think I might have discovered the culprit. The board seems a little burnt near the edge of IC201. It's an LC7881M

I just wanted to let you know that I've come across this problem recently and found that the issue was actually the ifu and not the CD drive. not saying your CD drive is not the problem. Just saying it could be the docking station at fault.

Does the CD drive do the same thing if you plug an ac adapter into it directly? Meaning to use as a stand alone player without the IFU?
