fishing games?
« on: September 26, 2006, 10:30:49 PM »
Hey everyone, I was having a lot of fun playing some Blue Marlin today on my nes and it got me wondering if there were ever any fishing games released for the turbo grafx or pc engine. I'm almost positive there were no American ones as i'm more familiar with the american games. However there were tons of games released in Japan that I don't know about. I know i'd really enjoy a fishing game along the lines of blue marlin or super black bass for the pc engine. So anyone know of one?

That's interesting, now that you mention it I don't think I've ever seen one.  I *think* there might be one, like a fishing RPG or something, but I could be getting that mixed up with some version of the River King on something else.

I know there is a Japanese game with a cover of a cartoony Japanese dude with a huge fish caught on his fishing rod. I think this might be the games GUTS is referring to which might be a RPG instead. I believe it's CD format, I'll have to do some researching. Other than that, I don't think there are any.

Adding PCE console specific layer on top of that, makes for an interesting challenge (no, not a reference to Ys II).

Afaik there wasn't any made for the pce, but who knows. The only fishing games I've played was on the MSX, which has two that I know of. This one is fun to play.

Give a try to Kawa no Nushitsuri (CD). It's a famous RPG with a fishing "simulation" part. Not exactly what you probably expect -- and Japanese is quite mandatory -- but it's a fishing game alright :)

If you're interested, the Kawa no Nushitsuri series has spawned a number of episodes on various systems.

Yep, that's the game! That game looks so hilarious! Jeez, what kind of RPG does the PCE not have?

An adult/sex RPG.

Wait a minute, there's already a bunch of them! :P

Popular ones.

(As far as Americans are concerned, anyway.)

Yeah, those crazy japanese always go for garbage like Tengai Makyou and Ys.

It's a good thing that most of them stay in Japan.

Kabuki Den is a unoriginal piece of trash with no humor whatsoever, unlike those Final Fantasies.

Any idea of what a rough translation the name would be in english?  I've had the game for awhile, & I have it labled as River Fishing King, but I don't think it's part of that series.....or is it?

That's pretty much the idea. A more literal translation would be River Pro Fishing.

No kidding?  A fishing rod controller?  Damn.  It would be hilarious to see a fishing rod controller plugged into a PCE LT.

I've never been interested in fishing games.  I find them about as appealing as golf.  When I'm in the mood for slow, thoughtful, non-rpg games I'd rather play strategy/war games or cinema/comic/It came from the Desert type discs.

I don't suppose there are any bowling games on the PCE.  I wouldn't mind one of those...
