D&D: Order of the Griffin sound bug.
« on: November 27, 2016, 10:46:17 AM »
Love this game.  But I can never fully get into it because of the sound bug issue.  Has anyone tried to fix it?  Is it even possible to do  I'm no tech expert so I have no idea if it is somewhat possible to pull the files from the card, fix the bug and then put the files back on the card.  Would be nice to be able to fix the problem.

If it were fixed, it would be a patched ROM (your HuCARD, and mine, will remain forever flawed) playable via emulation, flashcart, etc. (See Turbo Everdrive)

This glitch has been mentioned over the years... I am not sure if one of the tech gurus has looked into it, but they have mentioned that, in general,  "seemingly simple requests" sometimes entail "massive amounts of effort", so pray with me (Order of the Rat) that the bug is relatively "easy" to diagnose and remedy.

To further nully's suggestion: record the tune and play it back on your ipod (or whatever) while playing the game.  :mrgreen:

I spend at least 2-3 minutes surveying the battle map before making any moves.  Great tune, hope someone with tinkering skills takes a look at this someday.  :)

I do have the battle music on my mp3 player and that's how I play the game.  Doesn't feel the same though.  Just a shame since the battle music is in my opinion the best music in the game.

I've never really played this game, so I don't know how thorough the fix is, but try this:

With a headerless ROM, normal (PCE-style) bytes, change in a hex editor:

ROM address $19EF: 43 -> 60

Is there really some sound issue with this game? I played through the entire thing as a kid and don't remember anything being weird or off with it. Maybe I'll have to play it again to hear what others are talking about.

Yep.  I have no idea what any of that means.   ](*,)

Yea.  The moment you do anything in battle the music stops and doesn't start back up until the battle has ended.  So all you have is dead silence the entire fight except for the attack sounds.

If you don't know what to do, then after this "fix" is confirmed by someone, it might be a good candidate for one of Stardust4ever's repro cards: http://www.pcenginefx.com/forums/index.php?topic=20841.300

I'd be first in line to get my hands on one if someone did this.

Does anyone have this on an Everdrive?  If so, did someone fix the sound issue?
