Nobody I knew growing up owned or even talked about TG16.  I vaguely remember seeing stuff at Toys R Us when I was a wee lad.  NES was everything back then and then I moved on to Genesis after playing one at my friend's.

I didn't purchase my TG16 until 2010 or 2011 from Ebay CIB for like $70.  My list is still fresh in my mind.  Keith came with the console but a few weeks later I took a trip to Cleveland and found the next 2 at a resale shop (along with Metal Storm on NES for $15)

1.) Keith Courage
2.) Splatterhouse
3.) Bonk's Adventure

First CD game I owned and played through was Last Alert.  I originally cobbled together a CD dock with  Japanese CD-ROM2 for the sole purpose of buying Rondo.  I didn't find a deal on it for about a year so I also acquired Y's I&II and It Came from the Desert in the mean time.

For that console generation, I grew up with a SNES, did some Mega Drive exploration over the past few years, and only in the past few weeks have I started my PC Engine journey — hence my registration on this forum. It's about damn time!

Here are my first three games:

Thanks for all the great responses, reading through them it seems like the majority got their start with the hucard titles. I have played a few hucards: Splatterhouse, Download, and Bonk's Adventure, come to mind, but for the most part I have always been a CD/SCD connoisseur, with a preference on Japanese RPG's e.g. Cosmic Fantasy IV, Ys IV, Tengai Makyo series, Star Breaker.
If you don't like how things are, change it!  You're not a tree!!!!

This is a tough one...

Keith Courage for sure, as it was the pack-in. But after that, I don't know. We had a rental place in my hometown and I'm almost certain I rented a few games before I was able to buy any new ones. The nearest store that sold Turbo games two hours away. So I think my first rentals were Victory Run and Blazing Lazers. Maybe JJ & Jeff and Dungeon Explorer, too. I'm not sure...

I didn't get to play CD games until the Duo came out.
Games I Need: Bonk 3 (HuCard), Legend of Hero Tonma, Magical Chase, Soldier Blade, Super Air Zonk.

Got one to sell? PM me!

My first three were Keith Courage, R-Type and Bloody Wolf in 1990.

Keith Courage was *alright*, but for a pack-in, at the time, I thought Altered Beast seemed much more impressive and "badass" (not to mention it was a recognizable title virtually every kid knew from the arcades).  I still say, to this day, if they would have just completely axed all the overworld stages and used the extra ROM space to add more backgrounds/enemies/frames/power-ups and general variety to the underworld stages, Keith Courage would have been killer.  I mean, it controls just fine and the hit detection seems tight... there's just no variety or cohesiveness.  It could have been more like the platforming and hack n' slash elements of Rocket Knight, if they'd have done it right.  If the first thing kids saw when they fired up the game was some badass looking red, white and blue samurai-ish mech running around hacking and slashing, and the game was good, it would have pushed systems... but it wasn't.  And it didn't.  f*ckin Hudson...

Bloody Wolf and R-Type blew me away, however.  I had no prior knowledge of either game or even what genre they were until the Christmas unwrapping and saw the boxes.  I think my immediate mental reaction, after looking at the reverse of the boxes was, "Ohhhh!  THOOOOSE kinds of games... awwww yea!"

Made a mistake on my first 3 list before, actually it was:

1. Strider Super Grafx

2. Dracula X Special HuCard

3. RPC Genjin

Holy shit, love the avatar!

I hope you're talking about the Danzig-led Misfits! I dislike the Jerry Only version that's around today — the Shitfits, as I call them. And even if Danzig returned, they're all too old for me to pay attention. But man, how they dominated punk in the early 80s!

Here are my first three games:

Thanks! I like all three, though I still prefer the Sonic and Mario "mascot" games to PC Genjin. But PC Genjin is a solid introduction to the system because of the bold graphics and colors. I can't say I'm a fan of the music though!

Actually I was referring to the 1946 film serial The Crimson Ghost... I kid... Danzig misfits for sure.

First was Keith Courage on a friend's machine.
2nd was proooobably legendary axe, but I'm uncertain. I know I had a TG-16 for a while before a duo, but maybe it wasn't that long, because the biggest memory for me was definitely the gate of thunder pack-in and Ys books 1&2.

hard to get it sorted in my head because it was probably 1993?

Bomberman, Fantasy Zone and Space Harrier, in that order.
