System is sold, feel free to keep rambling on about the NUON though, it deserves some conversation...

I was big into the NUON scene back in the early 2000's.
Twas my first DVD player.

Tempest 3000 was a big letdown compared to the TK2000 on Atari Jaguar...such blurry visuals and inconsistent frame rate.

Merlin Racing though, was a wonderful and fun surprise.  Loved the quest mode.

Most Samsung remotes will work with it.. I used a remote from a 2009 Samsung plasma tv with mine to play T3K (poorly).

I bought the Nuon when it first came out - I think there may have been limited distribution in Canada, but I bought mine on a trip to Vegas (CGE2K), and bought most of the games in nearby Michigan.  I also had the Iron Soldier 3 that Nuon-dome sent out and a couple of controllers.  Got rid of that stuff a long time ago.   Aside from T3K, I didn't find any of the games too engaging, and even T2K is better.  The capabilities of the machine were also a let down - here was Samsung releasing a machine with PS-N64 specs when Sega had already released the Dreamcast and PS2 was just around the corner...  I think any enthusiasm I had for the Nuon started and ended with Jeff Minter.

About a year ago I found an N-501 in a thrift, took it home and downloaded T3K to test it out.  Worked fine.  It sat unused...  Fast forward to about 2 months ago - it doesn't work anymore...  I was going to trash it, but I think I might try to replace the whole DVD drive unit.

I blew up my jag on day on accident, a sad day indeed...so to get my Tempest fix there is typhoon 2001 on PC which is a bag up port and I bought a PSTV just for TxK(NOT TEMPEST LOL)

One day I'll re-jag myself cause T2k is top of the pops.

Trust me on this, the remote is NOT a valid option for playing games on the Nuon.

Funny thing is...back in 2002 after the NUON had failed as a format, there was a website called www.dvdinteractive.com that had a fire sale on controllers and games.  Literally $5.00 a piece for the controllers (the 2 non-Logitech versions as well as the Logitech).  Games were, I believe, in the $10 to $15 range.

I scooped up a bunch of spares, but have since ebayed them years ago.

Those were the days...the early 2000's held such promise.  What a great era to be alive.

The Logitech controllers were dirt cheap up until a couple years ago.

A guy at the flea market by me had a stack of 20 for $5 each that never shrank.  The flea market closed 2-3 years ago, he missed out on the goldmine.

Are they that expensive now?

I think even the worst Nuon controllers cost at least $50 now and the better ones are all over $100.

...worth it for Merlin Racing.  Or on a more serious note, Shin Chan, if anyone ever found it.
