I need to watch NintendoAge: the movie ASAP! From what you guys are saying this movie could run in a double feature alongside Dawn of the Dead

I mean look at this shit:

At one point in the documentary, the main character went on a rant about how he was glad his father was dead after complaining that his father disliked his video games and music.

This has to be the a "The Room" of consumerism. So much lack of self awareness
In any other situation I would have said that it's an in-your-nose parody of collectardism, but, you know, NintendoAge.

I may remember this wrong but I'd remembered before you pay to download Nintendo Quest.
But for anyone interested I've just seen someone's uploaded it to youtube.
As said I don't recommend watching it though.

I remember when I first heard about the concept for the movie and thought it sounded really cool.

What I expected: A couple guys with a camera driving around to flea markets/thrift and game shops across the country trying to find each and every NES cart.  Kind of like a story of discovery or an adventure like those Game Chasers and NES Pursuit type stuff...

Reality: None of this.  It was more of a backstory on what I'd mostly consider a pretty uninteresting spoiled and otherwise unlikable dude.  The way they "found" all the NES games (mostly in LOTS) seemed pretty fake or planned out.

Yea f*ck that "documentary."  I actually paid $20 for the DVD at Classic Game Fest last year (or year before, I can't remember) and met the main douchebag and the director.

Having been on a "Nintendo quest" of my own for 20+ years, it was frustrating to watch.  Mainly it was his sense of entitlement, that everyone should sell their games "for the cause, bro."  f*ck him.

The part about his dad, etc is completely unnecessary and stupid.

The fact that he never actually PLAYS A SINGLE GAME (that I can remember) is telling.

The final scene of the movie implies that next year (with a sly look into the camera) that another console's library will be hunted down.

Oh man, I forgot about that.  That "for the cause" bullshit was infuriating.  Like, this very much isn't something that anyone else can do.  You can't just say "Gotta catch 'em all!" and then magically get reasonable prices on super rare stuff. 

The main character seemed unlikable and the events as transpired seemed either fictitious or at least only a small part of the overall story.  Yeah, perhaps the guy Did get a complete collection; it wasn't due to his bargaining savvy, charisma, or likability.  He was just a jerk who had a camera with him.  Then he happened to meet a guy who I guess really wanted to trade rare NES games for some money and a chance to be in a movie showing off how great his collection was and thus he was able to trade fame and some money for games that he otherwise couldn't have purchased or wouldn't have found.

And only vaguely tangentially related, but Bonk on Nintendo seems the most pointless thing in the world to me.  A friend of mine was trying to get a boxed copy a couple of years ago and I told him that he was an idiot and could buy a Turbo and the game for less than he would spend on the inferior NES port.  They spoke about the game an awful lot toward the end of the documentary and I just don't see why anyone would want the blasted thing.

In Edmonton Alberta when i'm located, it was a big deal when it got released. Someone rented an entire movie theatre and had a screening night and everything. Tried to sell tickets for it, and vendors/local stores setup booths inside of the event.
BUT MY GO DID IT SUCK

We were warned before hand so we did drugs, but it still was unbearable. We left so early we couldn't even drive and had to crash at my buddies house.

The funny/sad part was the guy who organized the screening lost a bunch of money doing it. He bought a couple hundred DVD's and desperately tried to sell after the movie. He had them for $40CAN originally, but near the end he was only asking $20 plus delivery lol. You could just feel the sweat drippin off his posts.

I watched this a while back. I was disappointed that he left out how much was paid for games.

Lots of people were, they were probably just embarrassed how much $$ spent. Their Facebook page comments for awhile were just people bashing the fact that they kept this hidden.

At one point in the documentary, the main character went on a rant about how he was glad his father was dead after complaining that his father disliked his video games and music.  At that point, I couldn't enjoy the film at all anymore.  If that was what he meant and is to be taken at face value, then it was either a documentary about a sociopath.  If that wasn't the case?  Then the editor left in exactly enough of a non sequitur to misrepresent someone into something terrible. 

Either way, I couldn't enjoy the film afterward.

Wow, how out of place. I'm glad I left before I got to see that. I just left after they failed, right when that dudes dog died.
So not only did they fail doing a scripted "adventure" finding every NES game, but his dog died too.

One of the worst things about this piece of crap is that it was originally was funded by a kickstarter to pay the clown to "hunt" for a complete set with other peoples' money and then they had the balls to do another kickstarter to get people to fund the dvd.

Just checked. The kickstarter page and raised $16,814 112% funded. This one was completed on  June 2013. 

Minus what ever kickstarter kept for its share that's still a lot of money. Probably.



Oddly the kickstarter for the DVD/film raised $40,286 competed on Feb 2015.

So wait. They raised nearly $17,000 to buy the guy his collection and film.


Then nearly two years later they do a second kickstarter which raised more the double the $16,000 to produce the film.  That was already filmed?

That's probably why they didn't list the prices of the games as they picked them up. They didn't want the kickstarter backers to keep track of how much was being spent.
