hiyas - does anyone know a definative list of games that work with the tennokoe? I read somewhere that the hucard has to have some sort of symbol on it (like a battery) - does that sound right?

Yeah, its a little picture of a AA style battery that is in the upper right of the manual. It has, "backup memory" in kana written inside the battery. This is the same feature that will give the ability to save to HuCards if they are being played with a Turbo Booster Plus, Save-kun, or any CD system. I haven't tested that, but I'm pretty sure its the case. Memory Base 128 games have a different logo.

I don't see a list of these type of HuCards on the PC Engine Maniax FAQ. The games I have on these types of HuCards are Formation Soccer '94, and...hmmm...that's it. Mostly its for sports games, but I've seen it on other kinds of stuff.

The Tennokoe II is the PCE equivalent of the Turbo Booster Plus(hooks up to the rear expansion port).

The Memory Base 128 actually plugs into the control port like a Turbo Tap.

No, the Save-kun is a MB128 clone. It's a back-up manager and storage device, like the Ten no Koe Bank. You can't directly save onto it as if it were an external back-up ram.

No, they are different. MB128 games have their own logo, usage, etc.

I assumed by "clone" Kaminari meant "pirate version", like the PCBoy UFO or whatever, is to the Shuttle.

No, the Save-kun is a legit clone of the MB128. It was made by Kōei and sold at the same price. It was mainly advertised as a back-up device for Kōei games, but it's actually compatible with MB128 games as well (and vice versa).

I just saw that Koei Save-Kun on eBay awhile ago and was thinking about posting about it since I never heard of it before. I even saved a pic of it.

Adding PCE console specific layer on top of that, makes for an interesting challenge (no, not a reference to Ys II).

The same reason there are Microsoft brand Xbox360 accessories as well as the exact same type of accessories officially licensed by Microssoft to 3rd parties.

Its probably more like the multiple versions of the Saturn.
