I remember the old chat box on the site was on like every page, embedded at the top of the page. 

I think most other sites that have chat just have it as a separate page or whatever.  I personally am pretty flexible about where to sit in chat at, I just prefer to keep the people that we can together. And I am fine with IRC since I prefer to keep img links not embedded and avatars off.  Discord is fine for now since it's got most stuff, but I'll probably hang around in Paul's chat until it dies.

Chat is embedded at the bottom of DoxPhile forums, and can be used from the forums or as a separate page. Also, we have great smilies.... Login and type "cardboard" for example.

It also didnt constantly boot you every 15 minutes, like DoxPhile, Paulchat, and RisingStuff always did.

I never get booted from DoxPhile chat. There are the rare instances where the server freaks out but you don't get booted for being idle

Mobile devices will get booted due to the way they suspend the browser process in the background.  I have seen (and been seen) idle for days on end without losing connection when leaving the browser open at the office over the weekend.

Yeah I usually log on with a mobile device. he most extreme example of this that I can think of is when esteban gave one of his kids his cellphone, and it was scrollwars for an entire weekend.

I am in all of the chats, but got a warning from IT not to be in IRC chat due to security reasons? Why would that be? Anyways, no problems with DoxPhile and Discord - and I recently found settings in both to remove pictures and condense the text so it looks just like IRC and keeps IT and ME happy

I think the idea behind tcaud's original post wasn't that the Discord server needs to "represent" this forum, but rather offer a nice startup Discord community tailored around discussion of the PC-Engine / TurboGrafx.

That's cool if there is another Discord server already setup for this and if it is thriving, then perhaps that's the way to go. We couldn't find one which is why we made our own. This is mainly in response to how well the PC-98 Discord Server has taken off with gathering a large following of interesting members with many available skillsets.

In any case, that was the point of this was to try and gather members who might be interested in chatting over Discord. Not all of us have the time for forums anymore, but find it easier to just hop over to see what's cooking on the Discord server.

If anyone happens to be a member of the other Discord server for PCE-FX, please let us know the link to that communtiy so that we can check it out.

The main reason for pushing the Discord forum is to organize more action around translation efforts. Discord has proven very effective for that, moreso than IRC because when you're not on IRC you don't see what happened when off-line, and of course the chat logs build up too.
