Monitor Switcher Like the Extron Crosspoint
« on: June 29, 2017, 03:13:11 AM »
Hey guys, anyone ever gone this route? I'm considering it for the future so that I can play games on different screens. I love playing games on the BVM, but a 20" screen is a little small for 2-player. Ideally, I'd like to do BVM, consumer CRT, and a large consumer LCD.

Anyway, I'm trying to figure out the logistics, but it seems that the biggest problem is cabling. Right now all my cables are SCART and the Extron is BNC. What would be the cheapest/easiest way to get all these different system cables into the Extron?

Scart to bnc breakout cables for all your shit. Really no sense in buying a pricey scart switch and one breakout cable. Plus that might not be enough anyway, if you have a ton of systems hooked up that way.

Sounds like a fun cable nest.

I thought the switchers like the Extron didn't include audio channel switching either?

Some models do. You can tell by the small green or blue boxes on the bottom rear of the switcher.

Well, if everything needs to be BNC, I'll either modify my current cables, or make my own. Making my own seems like a pain in the ass since every console has their own proprietary connector that I'd need to buy.

You already have the scart cables though, you can just make scart to bnc cables. One end couples with the scart cable from your console and the other goes into the switch. That's probably easier than making cables for each system specifically.

Obviously non-scart stuff you can just use rca to bnc plugs with your composite or ypbpr cables.

oh right...lol. This is why I ask questions. I didn't think of either of these things.
