So I got Saturn Bomberman in like 1998 I think, for $11 at FuncoLand (now gamestop).

I really want the box/manual, but it is either never listed for sale or it's really expensive.  Is it rediculous to buy the box/manual for a high-ish price just to make me feel better when I see it on my shelf complete when I could use that money to buy several other complete games I don't even have?  I'm not planning to ever sell it, so while I know having the box would greatly increase the value, I don't care, it's really just for me to say "I HAVE THAT COMPLETE!" to all the friends I have that don't give a crap.  Has anyone ever done that before, bought the box only just to complete the game? I also have Virtual On and Nights Into Dreams disc only, at least they are cheaper.  Thankfully, my TG-16/Duo collection has everything with it currently.   ](*,)

There are many games that I would love to have manuals/cases for.

But, I just rely on "fate" to bring stuff my way (it rarely happens).

I like all the physical crap, because I find it I interesting  and "nostalgic"...but I know that I won't be able to own most games, let alone complete.

If you really like the game, don't feel guilty lusting for the physical crap.

It's called a *fetish* and Buddha tried to warn us that we would be much happier shedding these desires.

Just be sure you PLAY Bomberman.

Then all is good.

Yea i love playing the game all the time, It's the best.  I'm really glad I even knew what bomberman was, which I can attribute solely to having it for TG-16.  I would have never even rented it for NES and it wasn't all that good.  The SNES version was not so bad, but I think Bomberman and Bomberman 93' were better.  Saturn Bomberman is the best though.  I probably won't go through with buying it.  Maybe if I had sold one of my bitcoins at the height would I have considered it, but I can't justify it.  I need to go to flea markets.

Sell the loose disc, but a complete Japanese copy and a bunch of coffee or w/e you want with the left over cash. PROBLEM SOLVED.

Or mod the Saturn, sell the disc and burn the game.
Then it's all profit minus the region mod and bypass chips.

I know you don't want to sell it. But I have many games for tg16/pce that are loose. As long as they work I am golden. As for CDs there are no name blank empty cdrom cases you can buy and make your own inserts and manuals etc.

Personally i can justify some of the high prices for replacement cases to some of the absolutely rare games, like, even if i'm not going to sell them, it was still cheaper for me to buy a replacement case/manual to my loose copy, than it would be to just buy a cib copy, and i find that generic cases are a good way to just get your discs cracked(rip that copy of conker i used to own, hope it's in a better place and didn't shatter in an xbox)

tg16 stuff is weird though, i've seen the regular cases go for $10 or less, yet the repro stuff that requires you to buy your own stickers, and i think CD cases is 8 dollars each.

Yes.

Of course that is my opinion, to each their own. When folks dump their loosey gooseys when they find a CIB shelf pron, that's when I win!

Ironically, I had a loose box for US SS B-man a decade+ ago when I lost my SS discs(had games in a binder, separate from their respective cases) but I gave it away.

It is slightly nutty, but I've done it myself.  Nowadays I almost always buy stuff CIC, but I bought loose hueys back in the day (when I was a poor robot going to school), and later bought cheap manuals and cases for 'em from TZD.  I've also bought a few boxes for Turbobs, but those were also relatively cheap.

I'll buy cases and/or boxes to make games more complete, but only if it's a few bucks.  If there were a game that'd cost me $50+ to get a case/manual, I'd print my own.

Yeah, I try to avoid loosies anymore unless they're cheap, I've had watches on ebay for years until I finally had a hit looking for what I needed but it's a waiting game.  Sometimes you get lucky though and stuff pops up though.   That said, I just make due with what I've got, if it plays it's all good :)

I know the feeling. I prefer having manuals and cases with my games (I don't care as much about boxes), but ultimately it comes down to how much it will cost to get them. I did buy a Dungeon Explorer II case and manual a few months ago: I had a photocopied manual that I wanted to upgrade, and a blank case. I also got a second copy of Gate of Thunder because my original did not have the manual, and it was just slightly more to get a copy with the manual and game than just the manual on its own.

It's case by case for me (so to speak). There are some games where I really want to have the manual or other items, and others that I don't care as much about. If the price seems reasonable, I'll go for it.

Then there are things like this. I saw this at a retro store today. Maybe a little out of my price range.

I've done this with many things, but never with something as fugly and lame as a US Saturn game.

CIB is nice, but I'm not willing to pay a premium for it. I was quite happy to buy a copy of Saturn Bomberman in a generic CD case because the disc was in good condition and it was selling for $2. I've got a loose copy of Guilty Gear I stuck in an AOL case. As long as the game works, that's the most important part.
Feel like a treasure game on a rainy day.

I decided long ago to not even bother with US games. I only have Rayman and the two Virtua Cops; the latter two are in sleeves (came with the guns), and Rayman just because I found it cheap. Everything else is JP.

With Turbo, US and JP is right next to each other, so all is good, but damn I hate US Saturn cases.

Ugly US Saturn cases notwithstanding, if there is one game worth of doing something like this, it is Saturn Bomberman. I love that game so much, with all the post game stats that show who killed who, suicides, etc. I wish other Bombermans included that and even more stats.

Best couch multiplayer game ever in my book.

Honestly for me, if I'm fine with loose carts 99% of the time.
Discs, it's a little different.
If i'm going to buy a loose disc, I'd rather throw that money towards either a mod chip or blank CDs/DVDs.

On the subject of Saturn, I'm with all of you on 90% of the Saturn library is fine in JP.
there's a few I really prefer the US versions of, mainly Dark Savior and Guardian Heroes.  I'd like Magic Knight Rayearth, but not for the going rate.
