Die Hard
« on: August 15, 2017, 10:29:50 PM »
What's the general consensus on this game? People give it a lot of stick while others love it. From what I've seen it doesn't really follow the movie and looks like the Movie tie-in was just tacked on to sell the game. Is it really that bad? Or is it a classic case of  these internet reviewers not actually playing the game or giving it a chance? I think it looks pretty good!

What perplexus me though is even though the game is considered garbage it's listed on eBay at £100, and that's from hit-japan who are normally pretty reasonable in pricing (by reasonable I mean "the going rate" which is gone way too far now!)

What do you actual PCE fans think? And how much should I pay for it?

It's a semi generic run and gun, think if some hack make commando or ikari warriors with a dash of bloody wolf.

That said there are far worse games out there, but you will get frustrated doing parts over if you don't take the right path.

but hey, pixelated Bruce...

What the actual f*ck? £100?? That is ridiculous. That's nearly akamujo money. I like it but I would describe it as a middling top down shooter. The repetitive music lets it down a bit.

It looks nice but it doesn't play well. The maze shit is dumb and cheap pits with limited continues makes it more aggravating. Someone bothered to translate it to both English and Spanish so at least one person likes it.

The PC Engine did well in certain genres and poorly in others. Run and guns was not a strong suit.

100 pounds? Why are PCE prices inflating so rapidly? I smell market manipulation.

Thanks for the input guys, in regards to price the last auction finished on about £30 which isn't too bad I suppose. It's just ridiculous that sellers are trying to get £70-£100 for it on BIN auctions. I really want to try it out.

I haven't played thru it yet. I've been wanting to play it in english, but have had trouble patching it.  In any case, I did listen to the soundtrack repeatedly in my car to & from work a few months ago, & at the very least, I love the soundtrack.

It feels like a slightly inferior bloody wolf or maybe a prequel to bloody wolf.

Yes, do yourself a favor and get the English translated rom to use on your ever drive. I have a loosie of the real game myself but it's annoying not being able to read any of it so I never play it. Probably should sell it. Want my copy? lol

I like it! I wouldn't pay that price though. It also suffers from some serious problems, wherein if you don't have enough of the right weapons at the right times, you can't even hit at least one of the bosses.

Had a good go on the English translated ROM last night, I think it's a great little game! The graphics and music are great and I liked the design of the later levels, I made it to stage 8 before I had to shut it off so I will try to finish it tonight. Stage 3 is terrible though, it really breaks up the action for a boring, samey looking maze that isn't fun at all! Saying that the rest of the stages are fun! I like the bosses and the platforming elements. I would certainly buy the game, I'll hold off till one comes up on eBay for a decent price.

I have to say I really didn't find this game enjoyable. The same goes for pretty much every other Pack-In-Video game.

If you dare.
