retro freak ripping?
« on: August 28, 2017, 10:31:31 AM »
So I been looking into ways to rip the data from hucard. The way that seems to keep popping up is the retro freak does this.

My question is.... Does the retro freak rip the hucards to files where I could use them in my ever drive?
Basically making a pristine rip of the game that doesn't have issues?

I never paid much attention to this emulator console so I don't know very much about it. Anyone out there have one or does anyone have any opinions about it?

Every HuCARD has already been ripped perfectly. Just go get that Torrent and be done unless you have something super super special.

He's gonna rip Atlantean.

Seriously, I've no experience with ripping hueys.  Is there something wrong with the ones on the interwebz?  The ones I have all seem to work fine, but I'm not terribly focused on small things, like if some of them sounds slightly different.

Tototek has a small flashcart and dumper set up.  I've not seen reviews of how good it works (nor have one myself), so I'm just putting it out there as an option.

Cool, thnx Necro.

I actually have all the ROMs of all the cartridge based systems to my knowledge on my own server.

I was mostly trying to find out if this retro freak console ripped the games where we could use the files on an ever drive or if it ripped the games to it's own proprietary format.

you can use the retrofreak to rip the roms but they will have a header on them (maybe encrypted too?) and the rom is unusable in emulators. game will work fine on another retrofreak though.

from what I was told by a few whiny people, Atlantean didn't work on Retrofreak, or one of those things.

I said well, it works on the hardware it was designed for so...

The Retro Freak usually works with any standard game, it just gives an error if it's not in the database but still plays. Maybe you should send me an Atlantean Huey for me to test out.

Just got my retro freak today before going to work.

Friday or over this weekend I will be playing with it to see what it can do.
It came surprisingly fast from play-asia.

Ordered Monday came Wednesday.

Maybe you should have bought one when they were available.

I still can't kill the shark.
I found the abcard loads perfect Everytime in my supergrafx but is random if it works in some of my other consoles.

On my pce duo and duor I typically use my TED. But my SGFX + SCD2 I use the real abcard. I was literally just playing Atlantian yesterday in bed before falling asleep.

It might be that your super grafx has a tighter slot because it only had 6 games in it instead of hundreds like the slutty PCE.

The shark is easy.   There's a really obvious trick to it lol.

If I tell you, you gon feel dum.

Well, I think I just need to iron out the Dodge when he swims at me and all will be good. I have dodged it a couple times without getting hit. I just need to get better at it.

Well, some quick test before going to bed this morning. The picture output seems good.

I will need to hook up my framemeister to my capture card and then hook this retro freak up to the capture card to get an accurate comparison on image output.

It did not recognize a few of my games. Also, I was hoping it would distinguish between US and JP hucards. But it labels the both the same. Neutopia 2 is labeled [pce] Neutopia 2 and does not tell me which game is US or JP.

I tried the system with all my everdrives. Sd2nes, ted, gba, mega ed etc. None work in the system. Just gives a blank screen. So for those that wanted to use everdrives this is a no go as far as I can tell.

I don't have any of the carts that turbokon makes so I have no idea if those would work or not.

And... Atlantian just gave me a black screen in the system. So I am assuming custom carts won't work all that well in this system.

I have no idea if I have the latest firmware for the system. I will be checking Friday after I get out of work and maybe some of this stuff will work with a newer version if there is one.

Two games that work in my consoles is rtype 1 and 2. The retro freak did not recognize them. There were a hand full of games like this. It seems the database they use is lacking and I am sure there are many more games that won't be recognized. Again... This may be a firmware issue where I have an old one in the system.

I will be taking the SD card out of the system and putting it into my TED and seeing if those roms it creates can be used for making a clean rip of the carts.

So lots more to come testing wise. And I suppose if anyone wants some specific info let me know and I'll test it out on this thing.
