Does anyone here build scale models?
« on: October 18, 2017, 05:22:01 PM »
So, does anyone build models here? Not toys, not RC, not rockets, scale models.

I'll post pictures later if the thread takes off. I have lots and lots and lots.

These days I mainly do 1/24 automotive, and scifi kits in the usual 1/72/ 1/100 1/144 sizes. I've done all things from tanks to Warhammer and I find there's something to be learned from all those different scenes. I also do SD Gundam and some figures occasionally.

I also got back into rockets this summer but that's kind of another thing, really.

I'm thinking about going apeshit into Tamiya Super 4x4 in the next year or two...someone talk me out of it.

I build both plastic model kits and garage kits. At the moment, I'm building a Hasegawa Macross YF-19 egg plane (adorable thing), as well as some SD character from Touhou.
Then, building and painting Tamiya hard plastic (polystyrene) 1/10,scale bodyshells for R/C cars, which can be as demanding as a plastic model kit if you choose a complex shell or paint scheme. I'm currently busy painting a Mitsubishi Montero/Pajero and a Monster Beetle.
I also build buildings for H0 scale model trains.
What's a Tamiya Super 4x4? I know there's Mini4WD.

Pics please!

That’s what I meant. The line that contains everything from Unimogs to GP cars. My kid is about 2.5 now so I’m thinking about stuff he’ll want in the not too distant future. We happen to have an enormous basement so I could go full Jesse Ventura on this shit with a four lane crossover setup if I wanted.

Amazing.

I'll post pics of my stuff once I've reuploaded them on a hosting site somewhere else - Photobucket has thrown a spanner in my works.

I used to model and play 40k. I sold my army about 4 years ago though.

Too busy bangin' broads....

Just kidding... don't have time.  I was really into car models when I was young so I bought one in 2007 just to see if I still liked it... it is about half done now...  I need to set aside time for stuff like this though -- just to wind down.

I do warhammer stuff, sometimes.

but I've gotten so impatient about it, that I just have my friend do it.

He paints them too, and typically needs them unassembled to paint them properly, so I just gave up.

The warhammer stuff is fantastic, thankfully.   That's all they are good for since the game itself f*cking sucks now.

I did Warhammer for maybe a year or two because I knew some guys that were into it. I eventually got sick of the incessant bloodthirsty vibe of the thing. Also, while we didn't have Gamergate back in the 90s we had basically the same dudes and you get tired of them.

I did learn a lot though. Once you paint the shadows on the codpieces of a million 10mm space marines a 1/24 carburetor is a snap. I live in Ypsilanti, Mi, 5 minutes from Model Cave, the best model store I’ve ever been in and knee deep in maybe the biggest scale auto scene in the world (at least when it comes to modified dragsters and all that 60s shit) but I’m always surprised by extremely skillful modelers holding back on the details. Like, guys that can make a coupe into a sedan with no trace will paint the engine block gloss red and do nothing else.

I've put together a couple papercraft models.  Does that count?

Never got too much into it but I did mess with Warhammer a bit myself. Never got all that into it.

I am very interested in seeing pictures of your other stuff though.

NW: Hey, I made it on this psycho's Enemies' List, how about that ?? ;)

BT: Look at how the fake SFII' carts instantly sold out and were immediately listed on eBay before the flippers even took possession. Look at Nintendo's overpriced bricks. Look at the typical forum discussions elsewhere.

You can't tell most retro gamers anything!

Warhammer's rules have gotten progressively more busted.  It's skewed to promote you having to buy more shit .   They tweak points/units/army rules so every edition requires 400$+ in shit you need to buy to not suck.

f*ck that.

and yeah, the majority of players are insufferable manchildren.

but maaaan

The models are sweet.

Has it ever been any different? Really? Games Workshop could have always been called Money Workshop.
