Does anyone here build scale models?

I did Warhammer for maybe a year or two because I knew some guys that were into it. I eventually got sick of the incessant bloodthirsty vibe of the thing. Also, while we didn't have Gamergate back in the 90s we had basically the same dudes and you get tired of them.

I did learn a lot though. Once you paint the shadows on the codpieces of a million 10mm space marines a 1/24 carburetor is a snap. I live in Ypsilanti, Mi, 5 minutes from Model Cave, the best model store I’ve ever been in and knee deep in maybe the biggest scale auto scene in the world (at least when it comes to modified dragsters and all that 60s shit) but I’m always surprised by extremely skillful modelers holding back on the details. Like, guys that can make a coupe into a sedan with no trace will paint the engine block gloss red and do nothing else.

I am going to have to stop by Model Cave next time I pass through Ypsilanti...   I wouldn't mind reminiscing over some old models and I might even be tempted to start a new one...

ehhh I've been toying with getting some old school 1980's kits i see floating around for mechs and planes, just for fun.

It’s not a bad idea, but I feel obligated to say that a lot has changed with mecha models in 35 years and for most people nowadays “fun” is more easily found in a modern kit since they look decent with no paint or glue. I welcome a challenge personally, but that’s how it is.

Ehh I looked at that, but a flea market nearby has a guy with a bunch of them, and I kinda like the idea of taking the time to paint and glue one or two together.  snap together feels too much like . . .legos.  Idk I kinda want the experience...if that makes any sort of sense.

You wouldn't be the first odler guy to walk in there and say "Hmm, this could be neat" and leave $460 poorer.

The first models I ever put real time into where those sorts of things, like those Arii Macross models that came with their own glue. I still have unbuilt ones (the overproduction during the Macross boom time was so massive you can still get these f*ckers all over America for like $5. Like Nazi vacuum tubes or some shit, they never go away!). This would have been about 1983 or 1984 for me. All the drug stores had them.

These are one piece resin SD cars from Neko Works (one man thing). I have some that he did that also exist as 1/24 Tamiya. I have an Alpine A110 that I finished and the SD version is only %90 done. I also have an Alfa 155 DTM, a Mk1 CR-X...I cant remember what else. None of those I’ve worked on yet.

Warhammer's rules have gotten progressively more busted.  It's skewed to promote you having to buy more shit .   They tweak points/units/army rules so every edition requires 400$+ in shit you need to buy to not suck.

and yeah, the majority of players are insufferable manchildren.
