WTB Canadian Items
« on: November 05, 2017, 12:27:36 PM »
If anyone has Canadian versions of the items below and is willing to trade or sell, please send me a PM.  In most cases, I can trade US copies of the same items if it dents your collection.

Canadian Box -  is bilingual on back.
Canadian Manual - is in French.
Canadian Insert - is French Text printed black and white (box for these titles is same as US but with UPC sticker)

I'm listing just the parts I need, but of course, I'd be willing to buy/trade the game more complete if you prefer.  If you don't want to part with the item, I would appreciate good quality scans for these items.  Some titles that I hope will be easier are in bold.

Addams Family Insert
Aeroblasters  Box
Ballistix Insert
Bomberman 93 Insert
Boxyboy Box
Chase HQ Insert
Chew Man Fu Box
Deep Blue Box
Devil's Crush Box
Falcon Insert
Final Lap Twin Box
Gunboat Insert
It Came From The Desert Insert
Jackie Chan Insert
King of Casino Box
Last Alert Box

Magical Chase Insert
Military Madness Box, Manual
Moto Roader Manual
Raiden Insert
Shockman Insert
Somer Assault Insert
Super Star Soldier Manual
Super Volleyball Manual
TV Sports Basketball Insert
Valis III Insert

Wanted Canadian Hardware versions include:
Turbo Booster and Turbo Booster Plus
Turbo Grafx CD
Turbo Express (as well as accessories)
InterTan/Radio Shack accessories

If anyone can confirm that a Canadian version exists for these titles, I would appreciate it.
Cadash
Chamions Forever Boxing
Cosmic Fantasy 2
Exile
Jack Nicklaus (Hu or CD)
JB Harold
Klax
Lords Of The Rising Sun
Magical Dinosaur Tour
Night Creatures
Order of the Griffon
Parasol Stars
Sherlock Holmes
Side Arms  (looks like the Canadian version is a US import - no differences)
Sinistron
Sonic Spike
Talespin
Tricky Kick
Turrican

Other Brands/Markets I am interested in are:
Sodipeng (France)
Tourvision (Spain)
Vistar, Daewoo, Alpha (Korea)
Games: King, HuGo, Others (HK, China, Taiwan)
Clones: PCII, MF-102, UFO Super Boy, UFO Super Game, Super Twin Clone (HK, China, Taiwan)
Controllers: Honest, Honyu, Wontec, AE: BS, Apollo, and others (HK, China, Taiwan)

If you have PCE/Turbo for markets more obscure than these, I would love to hear about it and see pics even if you won't part with it!

I bought all of that hardware/accessories in Canada, but have never seen a Booster Plus.

I can confirm that WD confirmed to me bitd that they did not release any Turbo games in Canada. Unless the last release or two were exceptions, but the way they explained it to me, it wouldn't have been worthwhile.

I somehow figured out bitd that Sidearms was a U.S. only release.

Shermatlocks came out here.

I bought SideArms new at Radio Shack in Canada.  No bi-lingual stuff was included.

There was an article in one of the gaming mags BITD about SideArms already being out of print.  They probably didn't move enough copies back then to justify separate packaging.  I wonder if the copy you got a Radio Shack was an import.  Do you still have your copy Lost Monkey?  I'd love to see images of the box and manual to see if there are any differences.

Black Tiger, can you get me pics of the Canadian Sherlock?  Were the newspapers translated?  That would make it the most substantial Canadian version.

For sure there is a Canadian version of the Turbo Booster.  If they didn't make the Booster Plus, yet another epic fail.  I'm hoping that they did offer the Booster Plus.

It's also interesting that the black and white inserts don't completely align with the plastic trays.  Several cased games including Impossamole and Andre Panza got the insert rather than a full manual.  I'll create a thread with the info I have confirmed so far.

Can either of you confirm existence of the Bilingual packaging of the Turbo Express or any of her accessories?

There is a CDN variant release for the TG16 CD unit. The back looks quite different, I'll see if I can post a pic if you're interested. I know someone selling theirs too, but they want stuff equally as difficult to find for trade

I have Sherlock as well, bought new, but it was from a store that carried a lot of imports.  Not an "official" distributor like TRU or Radio Shack.  My Sherlock has no translated newspapers and no bi-lingual text anywhere on it.  Having said that - I also bought (from the same store) New Adventure Island (with French instructions), Air Zonk (with French instructions), bi-lingual TV Sports Hockey, and bi-lingual Ys I&II.

I also have CDN Drop-Off, CDN Takin' It To the Hoop, CDN Neutopia, CDN Ninja Spirit...

SideArms:  (sorry - Iphone pics and they suck..)

Gex, there are 2 Canadian Turbo boxes that I know of.  The first (I think) was actually printed with bilingual text.  There may have been a low run of these and they ran out, which resulted in a stickered version.  The French text was applied on the back over the image of the television to meet the bilingual requirements of the Canadian market.  There are actually 2 versions of Keith Courage as well.  I assume for the same reason.  The preprinted box included Keith Courage with a fully translated manual.  The stickered box included a black and white Keith Courage insert more consistent with later released titles.

If you can get your friend to confirm what he/she has (preprinted or sticker, and if with a Canadian Keith Courage - which version) that would help me confirm what I have seen.  I have plenty of trade material if either of you are interested.

Lost Monkey, I was so hoping that your Sidearms or Sherlock were different, but it appears they were just import titles rather than separate Canadian releases.  The only thing I see different is the 58-1569 sticker - probably a store sticker rather than a release sticker. I do have the Canadian version of the other titles you mentioned, so I don't need scans of those.

The 58-1569 is the Radio Shack inventory number - I have the receipt still too..

Kept the original receipt.  It's great how obsessive we turbo collectors have been.... even when we bought these things 25 years ago.

I don't think I kept any of my receipts, but I do have a shipping box from a TTI order... before Turbo Zone Direct was even around.  Keeping it was just a fluke though.  I used it to store something, and came across it when I moved several years ago.  It's now in the turbo archive though.

I was lucky enough to get one of these last summer. It came at a pretty decent price (as for nowadays standards).

It begins. I was wondering why nobody was collecting the Canadian stuff ten years ago.

Heh, it was just a matter of time.  What do you do when you get a "complete" collection?  Decide it isn't really complete and start buying variants of everything.

Miracle_Warrior - Thanks a lot for checking for me.  There's a lot of it our there.  Most people are surprised it exists.  Frankly, I am too.  But NEC didn't neglect Canada - they just had the same fate there that they did in the US.

I'm not new at this.  I've collected Turbo since 1991.  Before a lot of the members were alive.  Ha!

Necro, we all have our quirks in what we like.... nobody needs anything but food, water, and air. eh?  Do have Motteke done yet?

I personally think you can enjoy turbo anyway you want.  Hell, game with an emulator if that's what your means are.  Great if you can play on an original console with an everdrive.  If you want to rub your nads on a cardboard box, go for it.

For me, I love documenting stuff.  Knowing that it's out there is a big part of the fun.  If I see a copy of Night Creatures made for the Canadian market, I'll first say neat!  Then I'll say why?  Personally, I'd like to have it in my collection, but I wouldn't rob a bank to have it.  Somebody else might, and, eh if that's your thing... so be it.  The important part is to enjoy and obey.

I'd estimate that less than 10% of my collection is non-NEC, and of that, probably 50% is Husdson Soft games for other consoles.  I'm not sure it's possible for me to "complete" a collection even as focused as mine is.  But if you just want to play Soldier Blade on an everdrive through a repaired core grafx, and that's enough for you to feel your collection is complete - then be happy.  You need not much else.
