A bunch of Billy Mitchell's recent scores got taken down too.  Seems he was playing the game in Mame when he was claiming it to be done on original hardware.

Cheaters be cheating.

‘Nuff said.

Sadly, I don’t have anything more substantive to say because I am too busy thinking about Grelox and Quadrithiliot.

ROLF, probably self made drama just to keep Twin Galaxies from dieing from lack of interest.  They can't compete with Japanese records, so they just pretend they don't exist.  It's the definition of a faggy circle jerk

Weird. He did that in the movie they made about those guys and that was like 15 years ago.

You could previously always tell the a$$hole in any conversation about KoK because they always stuck up for this guy. “You only hate him because of that unfair movie!” they’d say. No, I only know who he is because of the unfair movie. I know he’s an a$$hole because I know 100 guys that look and act and talk exactly like him. I’ve lived life, met lots of a$$holes, he’s a specific archetype that wasn’t new to me when I saw the movie. String tie, hot sauce, family values, loves Florida, cheating liar, it fits. Be glad we haven’t been a part of the other lies he’s told. I feel sorry for those people.

Are the Japanese records better documented? This is a serious question. I find all old records to be highly suspicious unless there is hard evidence.

Anyway this was a long time coming with Rogers. Many of his records were proven impossible for various reasons (hard cap in the game, scoring increments) so lol.

If you have records proven impossible then yes, you should be banned from a website and all your "records" should be deleted.  It doesn't matter if the others are real.  If you are a cheater you should not be associated with a meritocratic organization.

I read this guy's Reddit post and he's full of stupid excuses for why he's a good person and a legit player and he came off sounding like a complete and utter scumbag.

Didn't have to click on the link to know it was about Dragster... the argument has been going on forever..

Billy Mitchell was at one of the CGE's I went to around Y2k.  He was a dink.  A female couldn't get within 10 feet of him without him acting like she was trying to grab his knob.

People get too silly over high score stuff.  It's too easy to cheat and has been for years; anyone with the motivation and skills to use emulators, TAS stuff, photoshop, etc. can put together convincing evidence, be it screen shots, streaming, or whatever.  If it ain't seen in person on hardware that you can inspect to make sure it's all original, take it with a grain of salt.

This. Sucks that people will lie and cheat for fame but it's always been that way.

"The referee for Mitchell’s 2010 scores was infamous Atari score-setter Todd Rogers who has been in the middle of a score dispute of his own."

Also this feels relevant.

All his scores should be deleted solely on the basis that he undermined his credibility cheating (if he cheated for a high score, he could have cheated for all the other ones).

Didn’t they have a rule at one point where you had to go to the place and set the record on their machine? It seems like going back to that would help a lot.

I mean, at a certain point that becomes kinda limiting. I know Galloping Ghost arcade has a few Western world records for arcades performed there, but you must eventually have some type of honor system or hope to enforce it. I post a lot of scores on shmups.com, which has a few world record holders, but no one really assumes that people are there to cheat, because getting to the top of the leaderboard on a scoreboard there doesn't really confer any extra clout or posting privileges - or "Credibility" ratings, like you have on TG.

As far as I know, some of the old records from gaming magazines like Gamest/Arcadia were performed on machines at arcades affiliated with the mag, hence getting into the magazine. I hold the magazine to a higher standard especially since score-chasing is such a huge thing in the Japanese arcade circles.

And yes, the Japanese scores for most TG scores blow TG out of the water.

Having to take your sled to Korea is inconvinent but nobody is going to believe your Olympic records at home. If you want to be the best in the world then I guess you’ll have to do the unthinkable and buy a ticket to Florida. I can’t think of any sufficiently good reason to go to Florida ever but then I don’t own a Tron machine and play it six hours a day either.
