Pixelated Celebrities
« on: November 11, 2006, 12:41:30 PM »
After many months of working, I finally finished only the beginning of a new feature I am working on for my site titled "Pixelated Celebrities". Please check it out and have fun! http://www.lazerdorks.org/stunningarticles/pixelcelebs/index.html

Adding PCE console specific layer on top of that, makes for an interesting challenge (no, not a reference to Ys II).

Awesome - this would make a great repository for people who want to use these images as their avatars.

This is planned in the future when my cousin makes a database for it. Not only will it say the game, it will list other stuff like which console and you'll be able to find stastics like which actor has been in the most games. Can't say when that will happen though :( . Anyway if you need to know a game, feel free to ask me since I should be able to name it :) .

You're missing a lot more, but I can definitely help you with some that :)

Let's see:

>There's plenty of digitized sprites from Rambo III on Sega Genesis/Mega Drive. Such as Sylvester Stallone in the intro, and Kurtwood Smith (the man who informs Rambo that Trautman was kidnapped by the Soviets)

>Phoebe Cates (also on Gremlins 2 for NES. In fact, you can use that screen from the ending that has Phoebe, Zach Galligan and Gizmo all in one picture

>There's a shitload of Dan Ackroyd, Bill Murray, and Harold Ramis rips off of Ghostbusters for Genesis

>Michael Keaton (the gameplay intro of Batman Returns for SNES)

>Val Kilmer, and Jean Marsh (Capcom's Willow arcade game). I see you got Warwick Davis' NES sprites

>Anne Ramsey, Robert Davi and Joe Pantoliano (Goonies 2 NES intro)

>Lethal Weapon (SNES)

EDIT: Did those Patricia McPherson and Edward Mulhare rips come from PC Engine Knight Rider Special?

I think he is missing more than he has.  I can think of a million Star Trek games that you can add for the original cast, DS9, Voyager, and TNG.  Because of the sheer enormity and new games coming out all the time, collecting every digitized celebrity is probably impossible.  But with fan submissions, the job will be easier.

Oh no, no, I am well aware I am missing a ton  . Currently I only have all the ones I cound find from every NES game released in American (along with a couple Famicom) and all of the TG16/PCE games on HuCard format. There is still tons of work to be done and I hope to eventually get through every 2d platform :) .

Thanks a lot for telling me this! I didn't play through any of the entire games, I just played enough to get as much as I could for the mean time. I can't wait to get Phoebe Cates :D .

Thanks again! I did load up that game and got Sean Astin's sprite, but I didn't know there was an opening. By the way, I am also planning on use the title screen graphic of the first one and applying it to each of the main actors in the film.

Yep, they sure did :) .

Hehe, I might add Gillian from Snatcher for fun as Harrison Ford, but we'll see :D .

I'm undecided whether I'll be using any celebrities in 3D form as my main focus is sprites, but I might. There are some certain rules I have of what's valid and what's not, like I probably won't add athletes from Madden games and only focus on the bigger ones with their own games, like Michael Jordan Chaos in the Windy City or something. Fan subbsissions is definitely something I am looking into. I am thinking about posting a message on the page that says how people can submit their own sprite rips to me, with all the specifications included (like use original pixel size, transparent background, etc...).

Thanks for the help and comments, guys!

I'll save you the trouble, I just thought about Google Image Search

Kurtwood Smith (Rambo III, Genesis)

The Goonies 2 Fatrelli family. There's an animated version of this floating out there. The text is altered in this picture.

Ghostbusters (Genesis) These are all I can find as all the good images are at VGMuseum but they got their hotlink fliters turned on, but later on I'll plug the Genesis into my capture card.

Dan Ackroyd

Harold Ramis

Batman Returns (SNES)

Michael Keaton

Michelle Pheiffer

Danny DeVito

Phoebe Cates, Gizmo, and Zach Galligan (Gremlins 2 NES ending)

Thanks a lot for the help, bud! (especially the Phoebe Cates one :D ) I'll totally have to add Sting some time :D .

Does anyone know if there are any other emulators out there like Magic Engine where you can turn off and on the background layers? That really comes in handy for this!

Pretty sure ZSNES or SNES9X does that (time to grab the Super Star Wars sprites eh?)

Thanks, I'll look out for that on those emulators. And indeed, Super Star Wars is a must!
