Rayxanber III

Just got this a couple nights ago and it's pretty decent, way better than part 2.  My only gripe is that the sound effects are f*cking impossibly awful, seriously the laser is a just a super high pitched BEEP that goes off every second.  Your main gun is a crappy beep too, but it's not nearly as high pitched so you can tune it out after a while.  Oh yeah also when your ship blasts into a new level it makes the EXACT sound Mario makes when he jumps.

The levels are pretty cool though, they have a lot of variety.  Like level 1 is you orbiting around your mother ship and defending it from attacks, then from there you have fast paced levels, a few vertical scrolling parts here and there, some cool bosses where you have to figure out how to beat them (like one where you have to shoot these balls and make them collide with a weak point), and some really good music.  It's not worth $70 but if you can get it for around $40 like I did it's definitely a good game.

I bought this game back in '93. I wonder how my opinion of it would be if I hadn't. Anyways, I remember the graphics being great over all (awesome looking parts), it's pretty easy, and has a great sound track. Too bad the sound effects are often too loud and crappy at times. The prequel Rayxanber II is a great game though, but way to difficult - I could only beat it on the emu with save states.

Oh I beg to differ!  HOWEVER my experience with Raisin Bar III was limited to the first stage because it was just so damn hard.  I have Rayxanber II and I can get pretty far into it.  The music in part 2 destroys the music in part 3 and wipes its ass with it.  Only a person with different opinions than mine would DARE like the music in part 3 better than part 2.  There was a tune or two that was stolen from part 2, though.

Ever-so-slightly off topic:  When playing shooters, my favorite weapons are usually the ones which make the least noise.  If they have a loud bleeping noise or something else that sounds annoying I simply won't use it.  I can't use the green "wavey" weapon in Gate of Thunder because of this, and I usually stick to the red Earthquake weapon because it is by far the least annoying sounding weapon.  I turn off the game when I lose this weapon.

this game brings one of the nicest handdraw grafx on your tv you may ever seen in the whole lifespan of the pce. also the difficult level is moderate, compared with its prequel. one of the most annoying points is the FX of the green beam, as already mentioned by guts. that really sucks bloody dicks in hell! :-#

How is it that I suck so much as to not even get past level 1 in part 3 but I can almost get to the end of the game in part 2?  Am I magical?

Maybe I should try it with a Game Genie.

Sorry to burst your bubble... You'll be most disappointed to learn that a tune or two from part 2 were stolen from part 1.

Yeah part 3 isn't too hard, I still haven't beaten level 6 but it's easy as hell to get there.  I just can't stand those f*cking laser beams, they really ruin the game when you are forced to get them.

Why would this disappoint me or "burst my bubble"?  I don't have an FM Towns, I have never played Raisin Bar 1, and I have only seen a video of it once (looked a bit choppy or slow if I recall correctly).

GUTS I warned you that the laser beam sound effect is ear-bleeding. ](*,)

Adding PCE console specific layer on top of that, makes for an interesting challenge (no, not a reference to Ys II).

Hah yeah you did.  Have you beat it yet?  Is that ship on level 6 the last boss or is there more after that?  I really like level 6 since the background music drowns out all sound effects, it makes fighting that damn boss much more bearable.  I also really like the underwater effects on level 2, it looks awesome.

No, I haven't beat it. I played it some years ago when my friend made a back-up of it for me and I played to somewhere around level 4-5. The underwater effect in level 2 does kick a lot of ass.
