Fantasy Star Soldier giveaway
« on: November 25, 2019, 10:46:39 PM »
Hey guys, we were lucky to get a few loosey discs of the never released Fantasy Star Soldier SCD game and I have a few of these that I'll be giving away here on the forums. Now I know that many around these parts have various opinions on the supplier of said discs, and rightfully so, but it was an opportunity to spread some holiday cheer for those that maybe don't have the $$ to own this classic or maybe some others just have never played it!  So I wanna get this game into your hands!  And let's be honest here, if you already have the game, maybe let some of those less fortunate have a shot this time around?  There's a chance that some more discs will be coming down the road of other games again, so just hold tight!  :D

If you'd like to be entered into this, simply post a reason as to why you love Star Parodia. Could either be a story about how you first played it, or your first impressions of it or anything Turbo/OBEY related. I just want to hear some good stories about our lovely little console this time of year. I will be sending them out within the next couple weeks and supplies are VERY limited as I only have about 15 to send out. A few have already been claimed, but it doesn't hurt to throw your name in the hat. :)

Hope to share the love of this awesome game soon!

Star Parodia is my 3rd, maybe 4th favorite shootie on the system (Gate of Thunder, Soldier Blade, Parodius Da, Star Parodia, R-Type).  Fun, fast paced, colorful, great design, total package.

so... a game i always wanted to try, but never did know anybody that had it.  I wasn’t familiar with it back in the 90’s, but when I learned of its existence, it was always on my list to try.
Fast forward a few years and i was traveling to North Carolina for work.  Majors and I coordinated a meet up to laugh/cry/eat/drink one night.  He took me to his friends used game store, then we hung at his place where I got to witness all the cabs and play some PCE.  Low and behold, I see Star Parodier on the shelf and I immediately ask to play it.  He says of course and I have at it.  Before I knew it, 1a.m.had rolled around amd I was 2 hours from my hotel.  Well, I called an uber and the guy thought he was driving me 20 mins until he realized which location it was.  He says “get in, let’s go”.  So about a half hour in, his wife calls and he puts her on speaker.  They continue to yell, not in English and he seemed to abruptly hang up on her.  Said she was upset he took such a long ride so late.  He sincerely didn’t seem to care and he got me back just before 3a.m.
So that’s my story of Star Parodier. And let me add, I have sporadically looked on ebay for a copy at a reasonable price, but it never seems to happen when I look.
Anyway, this is all true and was a great PCE memory of first time playing it and meeting somebody from the forum.

Haha, what a funny story man!  Reminds me of the time I was on a work trip to Chicago and hung out with BlueBMW and DragonMasterDan until around 1am at the Galloping Ghost Arcade. I didn't realize how late it was and then remembered we were to begin training at 7am onsite for a new client!  I was also about 45 mins from our hotel, haha. omg- good times!

This is a great cutey shewty.  I first played it back in the late 90s or early 2000s (ISO and Magic Engine) but not again until picking up a copy off PCEFX four years ago for a nice deal (with a sweet Ave3 pad too), but it lost none of its charm in the interim.  For any of y'all that haven't played it yet, you're in for a treat.

I don't need one of these (obviously) but I wanted to toss in my two cents and say kudos to jash for sharing them.

Thanks for doing this Josh, starting the holiday season off with the giving spirit - great job!

How can anyone follow Galam's epic tale there - that's a great one! Poor uber driver, and poor wife lol "just one more ride home hun"... 4 hours pass... "sup". Sure that was going to go well lol.

I don't have any experience with the game, I still have yet to play it. From what I've seen it looks hilarious and a great use of the hardware both in the functionality of the game and the design of the ships! We need to do a sprite hack of this to make it updated for the US Turbo market. Extra wide ship will make it even more difficult! :P

Buying a copy of Star Parodier probably would've been cheaper than the Uber fare.

I love the Hudson fan service.  To us in the west it probably seems like an obscure group of characters to make a game about, but to the japanese its probably the equivalent of nintendo fans getting a shooter with mario and zelda in it.  The pc engine and bomberman characters are my personal favorites.  All the fan service aside, its actually a fun shooter.  The power ups are character appropriate.  The enemies weren't half-assed.  It's a genuinely fun gsme.

Star Parodier is one of those desert island games for me! Those of you who've known me for awhile know I've had this avatar image for a minute or two now. ;)

This is way cool of you, _JASH. I'd love to be entered for a copy.  Over and over again.

Can't say I have played this game in a very long time (cost factor and emulation isn't my thing) but from what I do remember its pretty goofy playing the game as a flying bomberman or as a flying shooting pc engine raining death upon your enemies. I might actually pick it up but upon looking on stinkbay I question if those are booties or the legit seeing the prices all over the place. So yeah enter me. :)

I remember when I first played it and I always played as the pc engine.  Shooting hucards and cds was always so awesome.  I also really love the music in this game.  I remember not understanding that you can only start where you die a certain number of times depending on the hearts you collect.  I would get to the ice level I think and have to restart the stage and I had no idea what was going on.

Of course now I know how the game works and would love to get one of these if available.

You forgot the part about you having to hit the can! Lucky the driver needed to also.

Josh, do not enter me for any raffle.
