Gain Ground SX: Price Jump?
« on: May 28, 2021, 10:54:08 AM »
Hey everyone,

Been a while, but I noted suddenly (by random chance) that the title Gain Ground SX seems to have sky-rocketed in price from what I remember. Is this title genuinly rare, or was it just promoted as a desirable game by some youtuber/streamer or something that caused people to go crazy? For that matter, I know prices have jumped due to COVID19, but has any other title(s) sufered from an accute price jump?

December '92 isn't exactly a late release, so I wouldn't expect it to have been produced in an inordinately small quantity, so I don't think rarity is to blame.  It's not been terribly cheap in recent years, though.  The cheapest one on eBay that I see is ~$115 shipped, which seems like the normal-ish price plus the recent fucktard covid collectards premium.

Fuck, I hope prices go back to the normally overpriced price soon, but I fear the extra gouging (and always a fucking BIN) are here to stay.   :evil:

Maybe because it's a good game with very good tunes. It's on my list to get, but I can wait it out for a price I'm willing to pay. I've been watching it also, and with most old games, prices are rising. Good for sellers!

One tactic I've used for getting games that are pricer than I'd want to pay, is to find a copy missing the manual. I can't read it anyhow and when on the shelf, no one will know that it's missing :) Collectors shy away from anything not CIB. I have no issue with a "gamer" copy. I picked up a Panic Bomber and the female ACD wrestling game recently that had no manual...but had the right price for me.

I could have sworn this was really more like a $35~$40 game when I got it. I guess maybe I'm just out of touch! On the plus side, I'm told that game prices in-store are plummeting in Japan because all the tourisim has vanished. <shrugs>

Aside Note: I think it's criminal that Gainground SX is single player only! Maybe due to a technical limitation?

Gain ground has been listed on ebay for $100 or more for the past 3-5 years. So it's not just a pandemic thing.

For a while it didn't seem like it was on ebay all that often which was adding to the value. Then after the PCE works version came out, I noticed a bunch of people selling their real copies on ebay. Not sure if the timing was just coincidence or not.

PCE Works really makes collecting a lot more annoying. You really have to inspect the item (image or description) carefully to make sure your not getting a reproduction. :/ Considering Gain Ground SX is like 100 for an authentic version, was a boot really nessisary? (^_^);
