Looking for some TG-16 games after years away from my collection
« on: December 02, 2006, 12:57:38 AM »
Hello

Brand new to this board, former TG16 owner back in the day. Made the grave mistake as a teen of selling my system and game collection. Looking to get back to these classics. Looking for a Turbo Duo system complete from either US or Canada. Would likely be willing to pickup Turbo Duo Tap, Pad and a game collection also. Please message me if anyone out there is interested in selling their setup.

Welcome to the boards.  :)

A decent condition complete Turbo Duo could run you anywhere from $250 - $500.

But you can buy one of the 3 PC Engine Duo models for $100 - $150 and they'll still play the same CD games, save you $ and functionality when you go to buy/use an Arcade Card and it'll play all of the hundreds of great PC Engine HuCards.

If you go with a PC Engine Duo and still want to play some of the U.S. HuCards, you can just buy a Turbografx-16 for like $15. Where as if you tried to buy a convertor to play PC Engine HuCards on a Turbo Duo, it'd run you around $150.

PC Engine Duo + TG-16: $115 - $165
Turbo Duo + Convertor: $400 - $650

It doesn't make sense, it's just the way it is.  :?

One last thing you should know, Turbo Duo's and their Japanese equivelant the PC Engine Duo(identical to the Turbo Duo), are both known to suffer from a few problems, mainly overheating, which can pretty much render them unplayable eventually.

The PC Engine Duo R and PC Engine Duo RX(both look the same: white) however are known to be much more reliable and don't suffer from the overheating problem.

This is just one more reason why you're better of in the short and long run to buy a PC Engine Duo R or RX instead of a Turbo Duo.

At least now .. I have the consoles I want.  Mainly now looking for some CIC (and possibly CIB) games.  Just bought 10 games from Bklyn4ever waiting for them in the mail.

But now looking for Neutopia CIC, Military Madness CIC, Legendary Axe CIC, Bonk's Revenge CIC for a fair price. Anyone with list of games for sale, and willing to ship to Canada please drop me a PM.

I know I only have acouple posts .. but have been signed up since 2006.

I'd like to know where you are getting the Japanese duos for that cheap. Everything online is as much as a US duo.

That post was from eight years ago. Things have changed a little bit since then.

Same place as before, eBay:

Here are some that sold recently:

8 years later you'll find that even more Duos need new caps and/or lasers, but you can buy confirmed-to-need-repair Duos on eBay for $50 - $80 and you should expect to have to service any Duo that isn't described as repaired anyway. You can also pay more for system that have already been refurbished:

Either way, you can still find better deals in the forum.

Sorry didn't mean to confuse folks with an 8 year old post.  More just that I have finally moved back to a phase of my life that allows me to focus on my hobbies again. So back to enjoying retro games that I have .. and growing my collection further.  Recalled this forum, and was surprised to be able to recover my login. Bought 10 games my first day back.  So looking for anyone selling CIC games at reasonable prices .. especially Canadian sellers. Anyone in Toronto/Durham area, please pm me. Would love to know some local gamers/collectors.

Elder if you are in Toronto you need to join CGCC.  Some of us here are members there, including myself.  Turbo wise it's quiet, but there are swap meets that happen once or twice a year that are outstanding.
I'm busy playing pinball, but I still drop by to visit.

Thanks Fifty .. yeah I am am member of that forum also. Been to acouple arcade auctions. Picked up two Skeeball alleys, and majority of the parts to build a Nintendo Playchoice 10.  Don't really see too much TG16 on there.  But like I mention above .. just getting back into the swing of things after letting my collection sit for awhile. Right now focusing mainly on TG-16/SGX/PC-Engine and Vectrex CIC/CIB games.  Might try to catch a swap meet out in Kitchener/Waterloo area sometime.

If you go with a PC Engine Duo and still want to play some of the U.S. HuCards, you can just buy a Turbografx-16 for like $15.

did u mean only the controller and no system?
