Self-Introduction (JP Engine)
« on: December 11, 2022, 05:50:40 AM »
Hi! I'm not sure if this is standard practice, but since I officially joined the forum recently, I thought I should briefly introduce myself before I begin posting around in other threads.

Call me JP! I've been a PCE fanatic for a number of years now, though likely for far less time than many of the core fans here on the forum. I grew up in the States, but I never owned or had even seen a TurboGrafx-16, so my experience with the console has been 100% on the Japanese side. While I of course love the killer selection of shooters for the system, I'm especially fond of much of the RPG library. I'll paste a list of my top 100 PCE games below!

I've been lurking around account-less for a long time, and I imagine I'll likely end up defaulting to lurking even now. But in any case, I'm looking forward to hopefully getting to know y'all!

Welcome aboard!  It's impressive that you can list out your top 50 in order; I struggle to list even a top 10.

I hope 101 and 102 are Gotzendiener and Hatris.   :pcgs:
U.S. Collection: 97% complete    155/159 titles

Thanks for the welcome!

I think the numbers are all pretty arbitrary. Ask me again tomorrow, and I'd probably shift several of them around! It's also easier in some ways to list a top 100 than a top 10, since you don't have to make as many tough calls as to what doesn't make the list in the first place. That said, listing them all out is a fun exercise, and I think they're overall mostly accurate to my tastes!

I've only played a bit of Gotzendiener, and while I love the presentation, the game itself wasn't exactly my thing... :-#
I don't play very many puzzle/falling puzzle games, but I'll need to give Hatris a fair shake one of these days. My wife especially loves the genre, so I imagine I could get her hooked!

Awesome seeing Manji so high... Was always hoping that this series got translated at some point.

Like Nerco, I find it hard to list and rank my favorite obey. Your list is full of solid titles! I don't read moon runes so a lot of of the RPGs are lost on me, but I'm sure they are bangers. Glad you can enjoy them.

Welcome :)

Awesome seeing Manji so high... Was always hoping that this series got translated at some point.

Thanks!

It's such an outstanding game, especially for '92! It definitely seems likely we'll ever get an official loc from Konami at this point, and I imagine a fan patch would be a bit of a nightmare. Technical issues aside, there is SO much text to translate, that task in and of itself would be a beast. Plus, the UI is so designed around being able to abbreviate important names/mechanics with only one or two characters. I do hope someone is able to make it happen at some point, though! It's too good a game to be lost to time.

Zero for the SFC is great, at least! I don't know how good the fan patch is, but I can vouch for the quality of the original release at least!

Thank you! And it's great the PCE has so many great games that aren't as language-dependent so fans outside Japan have more to enjoy. ^_^

Right?! Still a lot of fun to put together a list, regardless.  :)

Just out of curiosity, did you play Ys Book I&2 back at release? I love the PCE Ys games, but I get the impression the real diehard fans tend to be those who experienced them when they were still way ahead of the competition in terms of presentation. I visited them for the first time MUCH later, so as much as I still love them (they're great games!), they're just a little bit harder for me to return to.

Greetings, JP :)

Your list is solid, tons of great games (obviously).

YOU NEED GOMOLA SPEED.

Here is my collection (favorite games of all time):

OK, I might be joking about some things... but not about GOMOLA SPEED.

I can't give you an "Top ___ List" because it changes, so I'll share my "CURRENTLY PLAYING" list...

Currently Playing (in no particular order):

Zero Wing (CD)
Horror Story (CD)
Hellfire S (CD)
Jaeger Pharaoh (CD home-brew)
W Double Ring W (HuCARD)
Valis 1 (CD)

... and a few others I'm forgetting at the moment...
