Your most DESPISED video game genre?
« on: November 20, 2023, 10:48:02 PM »
  !!!!! PLATFORMERS !!!!!

Mario can go take a hike!
   Sonic can go suck it!
Kirby and Starfy are OK, though.
I'll let Bonk pass unscathed, too.

I was never good at them, usually winning by cheating or through sheer luck.  And to add insult to injury, the ones I've legitimately beaten are considered EASY! GRRR!!!!

  What's your most hated genre?

A bad game is just bad, so no reason to hate on it. I never liked/got into Koei games. Maybe my brain just isn't big enough to grasp the cerebral nature of the grand strategy game type. Of course the merger with Temco has created more action/RPG games of late.

I wouldn't say I have a burning hatred for them, but I definitely don't enjoy anything that requires heavy stats management, like some 'serious' sports games, strategy sims, or the like.  It's too much work for my dumb brain.

I also share some of naniyue's hate for platformers, but only for the tedious and overly difficult ones.  Again, I want to have fun and not have to work too hard memorizing stages and making perfectly timed jumps.  That's why I like Bonk so much, I guess, as it's easy to pick up and play and very forgiving.

Regular sports games bore me to sleep.  I can be perfectly happy with something like Kunio kun's Dodgeball/whatever, or NBA Jam, but the more realistic a sports game is the less I'm interested in playing it.  And modern ones seem Very realistic.
Current want list:  Bomberman 93

Have never tried them, I'm sure they're great though. I already have so many games in my library that I can't justify purchasing the newer systems.

I have three:

1. Mascot platformers: I'll play Metroid or Castlevania style platformers anyday, but if it's sickeningly cute, involves collecting coins or rings, and is all about jumping, I'd rather go to the dentist.
2. Virtual sportsball: I do not understand the sportsball. I do not want to play the sportsball on my television.
3. Puzzle games: Once in awhile, I will enjoy one of these (Bust-a-Move, Tetris) but usually I find these sorts of games tedious.
