I like Valis 3 the best in the series.  The multiple characters reminded me of Castlevania 3.  The water level is tough on Turbo, sure, but it's overall my favorite version.  I'd much rather play the game with cool cinematic sequences and voice acting than with a bit more paralax and missing levels.

I also love the translation.  Between the early 90s voice acting and a few awkward lines, it really can't be beaten.  "You can't kill Ashura, he's a cynical guy" cracks me up everytime I get to the ice level.
Current want list:  Bomberman 93

never been a big fan of the valis games. i probably would have had to grow up with them to appreciate them. telenet was a really prolific but mixed bag of a publisher
valis 1 is the best, but still a B- game at best. give me the legendary axe games any day of the week

Both Valis III versions are compared in the latest Gamesack episode, though most of you probably knew that already.

Along with a good overview of the 16-bit Ys III ports on SNES, Genny, and Turbo CD.

More people should check out Wanderers on Genesis. It's really impressive!

however, telenet did do a pretty good job with Ys III! i agree
