Sports Games on the PCE
« on: January 20, 2007, 02:35:27 AM »
Just as a matter of interest, because they don't seem to get mentioned that much here, does anyone actually like the sports games on the PCE? I personally love Davis Cup Tennis CD, and the CD J-League tremendous soccer. Also I love the F1 Circus games, and shamefully admit to loving BattleField Pro Wrestling '94!!!! (although the rest of the wrestling games on the system are crap!) :D

Well, I like the Davis Cup Tennis TurboChip.  Are there any significant differences between it and the PCE CD one?

I hated F1 Circus Special, but I haven't played the HuCard ones yet.

Yea Battlefield is great. I wanted the womens wrestling game by Human for Arcade cd too, cause it plays like Fire Pros later titles I read. The only thing I don't like about Battlefield is the tiny glitch where sometimes when Muta does a moonsault his graphics mess up.

I actually love the sports games for PCE, a genre which doesn't get much praise for the console. Some of my favorites are World Class Baseball (along with the rest of the Power League Series), Dodge Danpei (though this more of an RPG :D ), Kunio Soccer, Takin' It To The Hoop (cheesy, but I have had fun with it), The Pro Yakyuu (really good baseball game), Final Match Tennis (excellent tennis game), and probably some more I forgot. We made a thread before that discussed our favorite sport games.

Adding PCE console specific layer on top of that, makes for an interesting challenge (no, not a reference to Ys II).

Well if F1 Circus counts as a sports game, does that mean that Final Lap Twin does as well? If so, I love that game!  :D

I got into Madden Duo CD Football at the time, actually learning how football is played in the process.

Yeah, for some reason I can never get into (American) football games, I just find them too 'stop/start', a bit like the game itself I guess! Give me rugby any day!  :D In fact, that's a point, you hardly ever see a good rugby game for consoles! (I know EA dabbled a bit and released one or two in the early 90's, but other than that...). Would be good to play one too...

American football blows, and this is coming from an American.

Hahahaha!!!  :D I used to get complimentary VIP tickets to go see the Scottish Claymores when they used to play in NFL Europe a few years ago (they disbanded 2 years ago), and whilst I enjoyed the nice leather heated seats I was given, I always found the game itself frustrating! Start, stop, start, stop.....

American football is one of the most boring sports there are. I'd rather watch curling (actually, it's quite interesting) or some form of sport martial art (not boxing either).

Ah, hell no dudes.  Football (of the American variety) has got to have some of the best strategy ever in a sport.  It really is a game that you need to learn the ins & outs to enjoy, unlike more continuous action-based sports (soccer, hockey, etc).  It's a game where _every single play_ really matters.

But I do also think that that football video games are boring.

For real, when I'm with my friends we normally play Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike, Guilty Gear XX Slash or Marvel vs Capcom 2. But when they bust out Madden or NBA Street and go on for an hour or more, before I know it I lie myself out of the house to go somewhere else.

Other than Power League on PCE, I kinda like Cyberstadium Base Wars (NES) RBI Baseball, Sports Talk Baseball (Genesis) and SNK's Baseball Stars series.

Me I'm really a baseball guy when it comes to sports games.

I've not even got any of the baseball games for the PCE, in spite of the large amount available! Which would people say are the best ones? I'll probably pick up a couple because I do like baseball games.

Check out any of the Power League games, doesn't really matter which one since they are all pretty similar and a lot of fun. The Pro Yakyuu is also a really nice baseball game (it's for CD) and is also pretty similar to the Power League games. If you (or anyone else) happens to come across that baseball RPG for CD, please let me know what it's like as I'm dying to hear about that game!
