This is really helpful; kudos to everyone involved in writing and/or finding these FAQs.
Most gamers I come across online feel that if an RPG is in Japanese and you don't know the language, there's no point in even bothering with it because, according to them, it would be impossible to have any fun with it. Personally, that's never been the case for me. Even though I know very, very little Japanese (basically I can read katakana when it's representing English, which helps a ton for video games, and I can recognize a handful of native words in hiragana and kanji), I've played through many text-heavy games in Japanese, including some of my very favorite games. I can't claim to understand the plot completely, but I don't feel completely in the dark either. There's a lot you can pick up outside of the text. Maybe the big difference between me and many other RPG players is that, despite that I really love the genre, I still place gameplay above story, unlike so many other RPG fans. I love a good battle system and exploring interesting dungeons, and I will gladly accept missing out on some story for the opportunity to enjoy that. So that's why I'm always really thankful for people who write walkthroughs for text-heavy Japanese games for people who don't know the language.
