My apologies to folks who already know about this. :)

Anyway, today I hear this song while I was in the car: Walk Away by Paula DeAnda. As I heard the lyrics unfold, I nearly got into an accident!

Yeah, this is the live version. At the ~50 second mark you can hear some fantastic sony + pop song magic.

Watch the video first. Otherwise, here is the first verse (spoiler!):

Quote
I saw you with your new girl just yesterday
and I feel that I must confess
even though it kills me to have to say
ill admit that I was impressed
is it calling just showed up affection
gotta commend you on your selection
though I know I shouldnt be concerned
in the back of my mind I cant help but question
does she rub your feet (when you've had a long day)
scratch your scalp (when you take out your braids)
does she know that you (like to play PS2 till 6 in the morning like I do)

I'm sure there have been many references to PlayStation in pop culture, and music in particular, but I find DeAnda's reference particularly amusing (I wouldn't expect the lyrical content / genre of her song "Walk Away" to typically contain video game culture).

And why am I listening to this radio channel? I don't know, but listening to hit songs from Justin Timberlake seem to help me wake up in the morning! I think this station plays four Timberlake singles every half-hour!

Homer Simpson: "I WON! Honey, the first thing we're doing tomorrow is buying a Playstation... ONE!"

Some other show (don't remember what it was called right now)

("Guy" had been at the MTV studios)
Guy: They even had a Playstation!
Guy 2: Whoa, a Playstation Two?
Guy: Playstation THREE!

(this was from 2001 or something, when PS3 obviously didn't exist)

Public Enemy had a song where one of the lines was "Good enough to know no endo, threw it out the window, along with the super nintendo".  I always laughed at that one.

Notorious B.I.G. rhymes "Super Nintendo, Sega Genesis. When I was dead broke, man I couldn't picture this." in the song Juicy. I always get a kick whenever I hear that.

Adding PCE console specific layer on top of that, makes for an interesting challenge (no, not a reference to Ys II).

The song is called Bedlam 13:13 for those who wonder.

From Ice Cube's Friday track: "Smokin' indo, playin' that Super Nintendo, hear a rat-tat-tat on my window."

In the famous House of Pain track "Jump Around", Everlast raps: "Oor better yet a terminator like Arnold Schwarzenegger. Try'n to play me out like as if my name was Sega."

Well, one of my favorite references to Nintendo / Sega is found in Carter USM's song "Mid Day Crisis" :

It was the automatic rifles
the Nintendos and the Segas
And the half a dozen dead disciples

Great band, great song... :)

This is found on the "Post Historic Monsters" album, and if you're curious, I recommend listening to the tracks "A Bachelor For Bayden Powell" and "Commercial f*cking Suicide Part 1".

Not only that, but IIRC, there is some old rap song that uses the entire "Inspector Gadget" theme song... I feel like the chorus goes "Nightmares.... of the night", but I'm sure I'm remembering it wrong. I tried googling but I got tons of irrelevant crap.

If you wanna hear a song about video games, check out "Protoculture" by Del The Funkee Homosapien.

Dragon's Lair appreciation. Again.
