Any TurboGrafx-16/TurboDuo Owners in Saddle Brook, New Jersey?
« on: February 18, 2007, 04:07:17 AM »
I was wondering whether there are any TurboGrafx-16/Turbo Duo owners in Saddle Brook, New Jersey, USA?  It came to my mind yesterday, while playing Lord of Thunder and Bonk, that I might be the only person in town with a Turbo Duo.  It is kind of interesting.  Everyone has a Playstation 2, but how many own a Turbo Duo.  That came to my interest.  Well, post up.  Also you could post whether you are the only Turbo system owner in your town.  I would love to hear from all of you.  :)
Let the old mix with the new.

1?

As far as my town goes, the lovely Crete, Illinois, I am nearly positive I am the only Duo owner (as well as some other weird consoles), but I might not be the only TG16 owner since I knew two people in high school who had one (one of them lived in another town though, but neither of them were Turbo freaks). From what I know, the Turbo Grafx 16 was a little more popular in Illinois (specifically the northern Chicago subburbs I think) since NEC's headquarters for the TG16's launch was in Woods Dale, Illinois.

Adding PCE console specific layer on top of that, makes for an interesting challenge (no, not a reference to Ys II).

I'm surely not the only Turbo player in Seattle. There used to be this guy that ran a used video game store and he was a HUGE Turbo freak in his personal life. He bought and sold all kinds of Turbo stuff, among everything else. HUGE Turbo selection. He had a lot of full size arcade cabinets for sale too. I sold him a TE and TG-CD deck at one point. His store disappeared circa 2003 and I never saw him again. He was always bugging me to sell him a Duo.

More recently I bought a game online from a guy with a Seattle address.

So I know these people are out there.... Just don't really know how to find them! Seattle is a big place.

I'm up in Calgary, and people that come into my home always point at my Duo and go "WTF is that?"  Guys will recognize my other systems - the Saturn and the Dreamcast - but not a single person has recognized the Duo.  Granted I haven't been up here that long, but still...

But I guess even in a huge market like LA, where I first bought the Duo/TG-16, a few had the TG16 base unit, but I didn't know that many that actually had the CD Rom system.  (I recall 1 other kid in High school that I personally knew of).  Hell, I didn't get the CD-Rom till after the Duo was released and the price was dropped to a clearance price.

I think this area (Seattle) was a very strong market for the Turbo back in the day. I knew a couple folks who had one, and still others who had friends that had 'em and would recognize mine when they came over.

How many of you guys are in central Wisconsin?  I'm in Wausau.   I may be the only person in the area with a Duo- and soon a Duo R =)

I can tell you that Bloomfield, NJ and East Hanover, NJ are home for two TG-16 fans :). Duo's, TG-CD's, PCE's, etc. :)

I would nearly guarantee that I'm the only person with a turbografx in this town and possibly most of the state of Nebraska.  I would bet that lincoln or omaha would be the only other locations that they might possibly exist.  There was one other kid in my highschool that had one, but I don't think he has it anymore, and I guess he lives in another state anyway.
The Turbo was Dual Core when Dual Core wasn't cool . . .

Wouldn't it be interesting for all the Turbo system owner of New Jersey to meet.  There wouldn't be any need for much room.  But it will be more like a family since we all love the Turbo systems.
Let the old mix with the new.

You're not alone, I'm in Nebraska too.

You can add yourselves to this map. ;) It's really simple, just insert a name and the location. Some notes could be fun too.
