Who ya gonna call?
« on: March 15, 2007, 07:56:07 PM »
........

I've been on a Ghostbusters kick lately, in addition to a TMNT kick, and I HAD to make a thread about GB. Probably one of the most successful and popular franchises from my childhood, and still is pretty popular to this day.

Dragon's Lair appreciation. Again.

I always have to watch Ghostbusters a few times each year.  I loved The Real Ghostbusters where Peter Venkman had Garfield's voice.  What's the deal with the fake Ghostbusters cartoon, with the ape?  What the hell was that all about?  It was horrible!

The Genesis game Ghostbusters kicks ass.  The Activision versions not so much, but I still long for the SMS version anyway because it can be kind of fun.

Ah yes, one of the few movies I could memorize all lines of since I was small.

What does anyone think about the new Ghostbusters game on XBox360? It was actually everything I recall being in the shower brainstorming for nearly 45 minutes over around the time when PS2 came out 6.5 years ago.

Ouch, I remember that show on Channel 11 WPIX! It came on just prior to, or after, GI Joe :). I think that the company that produced it legitimately owned a trademark for the "Ghostbusters" name ... but they didn't have access to the Ghostbusters movie and its IP. So they just cashed in on the name alone. Of course, I should just Google this, but it's more fun to waste everyone's time :). IIRC, the lame cartoon actually made it to television screens first...

I wonder, though, if I'd hate the cartoon now. I hated a lot of lame cartoons back in the day, but maybe I'd enjoy some of them now? For example, I hated Captain N. Lame. But now? Maybe it would be good for a laugh? The same goes for Super Mario Brothers crap and other atrocities.

For example, I hated the LAME cartoon that was part of Video Power. Someone (here?) said it was based on characters from Acclaim, but all I remember is an angry turnip. Today, I think I might love the crap out of a cartoon this horrid.

The POWER TEAM.

Yes, they were all Acclaim based characters. Kuros from Wizards and Warriors, Tyrone from the basketball game "Arch Rivals", Kwirk (the turnip you were referring to, Kwirk is a Puzzler on the game boy), Max Force (NARC) and Bigfoot the Monster Truck are the characters.

The funny thing is that Bill Murray does Garfield's voice in that live action Garfield movie.

Joe, holy crap, look at The Ghost Busters (1975). I had no friggin' idea that the cartoon was based on an old show. There is a video of the opening credits, the song, the theme song... it's FANTASTIC!

The cast must be singing it, and it sounds like they are about to fall asleep, even during the chorus!

Awesome. I totally want to see this show now :).

I liked the movies when I was a kid. I still think they're pretty funny. Never seen the cartoon.

Yes, the Filmation Ghostbusters (the same incompetents who made Scooby Doo) made it to the TV screen first, that's why the second one was called "Teh REAL Ghostbusterz".

Great find on that ancient TV show!  Dan Ackroids must be pissed!

Filmation is most famous for the He-Man & MOTU cartoon.

So I found it funny that in the film Ghostbusters sequel, when the washed up GB's show up at a kid's birthday party and sing "who ya gonna call?", all the kids scream "HE-MAN!"  :P

Y'know as we speak, Ghostbusters II is showing on Bravo channel, and I came up on this post when that scene came up. Big irony bomber
