PCE digital comics
« on: March 18, 2007, 04:23:02 AM »
Okay, guys, I'm looking for digital comic recommendations.  For reference, here are my concise thoughts on some of the ones I've already played through:

3x3 Eyes - Really slow for long stretches but gets freakin' CRAZY at times and has the best Duo cinemas I've ever seen (at least, when played with the AC).

Cal 2 - Quite a few cute girls, but quite a few Game Overs too, and I like my comics to keep those to a minimum.

Cal 3 - Awful.

Digital Angel - Distinctive art style, cool music, and a fairly intriguing story.

Graduation Album - I guess I'm a sucker for nerd love stories, because I really liked this one.  Nice music.

Miki - Awful.

Ranma 1/2 2 - GREAT game.  Very funny, excellent presentation.

Snatcher - Cool, stylish, and at times, intense.

Okay, as you can see, I like a pretty wide variety of these things.  I'm also up for games that lean more towards the "sim" side of things if their sim aspects are moderate (like Tokimeki Memorial).  If they're heavy, like in Princess Maker 2, the game is out.

Here are some comics/sims I'm interested in.  I haven't watched any of the animes that some of these games are based on, btw.

Cobra 1 and 2
Devil Hunter Yohko 1 and 2
Doukyuusei
Gunbuster 1 and 2
Nadia
Pastel Lime
Patlabor
Private Eye Dol
Urusei Yatsura
Yawara

Any comments would be appreciated.

By the way, Frozen Utopia should make a Gude Crest digital comic, released with action figures and other trinkets.

Galaxy fraulein Yuna 2 is nice. I haven't played into the first one so I can say much about it.

Cobra 1 - pretty sure I got stuck on this where you had to enter a door code so unless you find a walkthrough that could be a problem.
Devil Hunter Yohko 1 - OK but not a patch on Ranma, by far the best Digicomic on the Engine. A bit boring generally tbh.
Gunbuster 1 - You'll enjoy if you like the anime, but it's one of the few that has an actual game over if you get things wrong. Lots of low-colour digitised pics and animations instead of the less animated but better drawn pics of other digicomics.
Nadia - Brilliant, get it.
Urusei Yatsura - I love UY, but agian I have got really stuck in this one. Curse my lack of Japanese knowledge!
Yawara - It does have long stretches of chat and repetitious locations, but I quite enjoyed it. Yawara 2 is not as good, being far too short.

Cool.  I'd forgotten to include the Yunas in my list, but I've been meaning to get them for a while now.

I'm really interested in this one.  I saw your review for it on the Bible page, but Emerald Rocker keeps warning me that it's not so hot.  It'll be interesting to see whom I agree with!  It seems a bit more expensive than some of these other ones, though, so I might not get it for a while.

Thanks for the comments, guys.

Cobra 2 is the greatest digi comic I have ever played(the faithful Sega-CD port at least). It wipes the floor with Snatcher.  :P

Seriously, it really does kick ass.

I have Sapce Cobra or whatever it is.  Bought it when it was new for like $20 or so.  I lost interest after about an hour into the game.

We'll add it to our queue, although I must say it'd have at least six titles ahead of it... :D

Hehe :D

Seriously though, digital comics aren't terribly hard to make, they're harder to draw than to program.
