Thugz puttin tha hurt on my local peeps
« on: April 06, 2007, 11:04:35 AM »
I stopped by a local game shop today to drop off an NES to get the pins replaced.

Turned out that they had just been robbed the other night and they caught the losers on video.

The owner said that the first thing they went for was the Xbox 360 box behind the counter, but were pissed to find that it was empty.

He also said that they left behind a PS3 basketball game, saying that "even they knew they couldn't get anything for it".

At least they left the Ninja Gaiden Worlds of Power novel for me to buy.

The music almost gave me the impression it was faked.  Who puts music to security videos?  It shouldn't have had any music at all, and it should have been edited down to just the portions where the faces are seen since nobody wants to look at the floor for twenty minutes while barely anything moves.  Perhaps he should show the tape to the police, but it almost seems he doesn't want to get them involved if he wants people to contact the store directly instead of the police.

Well,I'm doubtful too many people have thought about this, but they cant live that f*ckin far if they are bicycling it there and back with heavy duffel bags full of stuff. You may want to point that out to the store owners. LOL on this whole thing. Guys so broke they had only  a bike for a getaway plan. For that matter looks like they prob had to share it.

Trashing the place was just as bad as stealing, IMO. If you're gonna steal, at least do it with some class, godammit!

If you mean that buddy robbed himself, thats a possibility. But I've been there in the past and was there yesterday and a couple display cases are now gone because 'he claims' they were smashed in the robbery and most of their newer gen stuff and a bunch else is now gone and he spent the whole time I was there installing software on his shitbox replacement computer.

Frankly, I was surprised the first time I found the store that it was operating smack dab in the heart of Crackton. I always expected them to go out of business right away due to break-ins alone. But there's not enough of a market for a real video game store to pay for rent in a shopping mall or anything.

There's a homeless drug abuse/metally ill epidemic across the Vancouver area. Ever since they closed down the mental disability hospital, dumped everyone on the streets and left responsibilty of getting and taking prescriptions to the users.

As bad as various thefts are in the area(number one in North America for car theft alone the last couple years), the latest big problem is scrap metal theives. They're literally tearing done everything they find everywhere, even live wires.

And most of these guys ride around on bikes. Pretty much the only thefts committed using vehicles around here are when people use stolen cars to drive straight into banks or convenience stores.

I work for a big company that spent a bunch of money bumping up security at our warehouse after the first major break-in. I just came back after six months after quitting to take a different job. Tuns out they got robbed twice while I was gone. Each time they broken into one of the connected businesses and smashed through wall after wall, looting each place until they hit ours at the end of the strip.

You Canadians are behind the times, us Americans did that over 25 years ago!

It is fake,

How do you think?  Why would a game store fake something like that unless they are trying to file a false insurance claim?  To be honest, I can't see crap in the video other than the nerds looking through the store window!  However, I did notice that one of them looks like Andrew from Game Life, I think they should check out that possibility!

I hope that my favorite game store in the area doesn't get ripped off, Mr. Kelly is quite a nice fellow who can even put up with the Nerd HURD asking lame questions.  I don't think anyone would break into his store since the majority of his expensive stock is pre-Crash games, hah!

On the other hand, I'm sure Matt from Gamestop has had to put with the occasional shop lifter or two  :P .

Adding PCE console specific layer on top of that, makes for an interesting challenge (no, not a reference to Ys II).

If they would give guns back to the masses (so criminal minds have easier access) these extreme forms of after hour robbery would not occur (driving cars into shops, breaking through walls ect.). Instead they could cut to the chase and just hold the place up real fast.
Instead of Canada your talking about I almost imagine Old Detroit pre-Robocop days from what you describe going on.

I was actually going to make a comparison to Robocop, but didn't think anyone would take me seriously.  :P

Gun violence isn't too bad around ere, except between gangs and any fights that break out in popular places like clubs. You can't pick a fight without someone pulling out a gun and using it.

Last month at a 7-11 near my work, a customer helped the cashier chase a couple shoplifters out. They went and got their stolen SUV and drove it into the customer once he stepped outside, right through the front doors. They didn't even try to loot the place or anything after that. More and more businesses are putting those pole barriers in front.

Although there are many factors that may or may not affect crime, a big problem in Canada right now, is that its almost impossible to get sent to prison and when someone actually does, they get a super short sentence and are out on parole within a year or two.
