Hello everyone!
« on: April 11, 2007, 04:09:13 AM »
Hello everyone.  Well I have wanted to get into PC-Engine gaming for years, but simply
couldn't afford it.  Now I live in Japan and its a lot more accessible. I'd also like to get
a PC-FX but I haven't seen one for sale anywhere yet.  (I'm a good ways from Tokyo)
Anyway, here's what I've found so far:

PC-Engine Duo-R (Complete Boxed Set)
1 Avenue Pad
Tennoke Bank
Arcade Card Duo
Advanced Variable Geo
Brandish
Cotton
Cyber Core
Dracula X
Dragon Knight II
Exhile II

Langrisser: Hikari No Matsui
Legend of Xanadu
Legend of Xanadu II
Metamor Jupitor
Moonlight Lady
Nexzr
Parodius da!
PC Man 3 (Bonk 3)
Private Eye Doll
R-Type 1
R-Type 2

Side Arms Special
Star Parodier
Steam Hearts'
Space Harrier

Welcome aboard!  That's a damn good start to a collection.  How do you like Steam Hearts?  It looks like a decent shooter with a little naughtiness thrown in for good measure, but is it worth the high price it usually goes for?   Perhaps it is more reasonable in Japan.

P.S. - You shall never obtain Necronomicon!

Steam Hearts' is quite fun actually.  I bought the Saturn remake years ago.
The PCE version is a much better shooter in my opinion.  Here in Japan I paid
7,400yen for it, so thats roughly $70.  Usually the Ebay sellers list it at
like $200 plus, so yeah the prices here are a lot more bareable.  I'd say it was
worth what I paid, as it is quite fun.  Probably not worth the Ebay price though.

Most common PCE games are very cheap here.  The majority of my games all
came from one store for only 480yen each (cheaper then a BicMac Meal at
McDonalds).  Dracula X is a bit more expensive due to demand (I paid
12,800yen or about $125), but its not a "rare" game by any means.

And I don't need the Necronomicon, my powers have risen far beyond its
feeble abilities  :D

Wow, that seems a bit high for Japan. Was your copy minty and complete w/ spinecard and all that?

I got my copy from Akihabara for a little less than $90 US.... Granted, it was missing the spine card.

I don't think so.  Here's a mini-review:

Welcome to the site. Enjoy your PC Engine. By the way, I recommend Yahoo Japan. You can get anything there (a PC-FX for example), and stuff is generally cheaper there than in stores.

いらっしゃい。

Quite a few folks signing up from Japan these days.

Dracula X is a bit more expensive due to demand (I paid
12,800yen or about $125), but its not a "rare" game by any means.

I got my copy from Akihabara for a little less than $90 US.... Granted, it was missing the spine card.

12800 yen was about what I recall it going from a shop that was near me.

Then again, I wasn't near big gaming areas of Japan like Akihabara or Denden-town, and things were definitely a bit cheaper in those places when I visited.

By the way, I recommend Yahoo Japan. You can get anything there (a PC-FX for example), and stuff is generally cheaper there than in stores.

+1

Yahoo Auction Japan is a fantastic place for deals, especially if you live in Japan, considering many sellers won't ship outside Japan.

i.e. I got things like:
- SCD-ROM2, CoreGrafx 2, + around 40 games -- majority loose HuCards, but some were complete & good and/or semi-valuable ones like ACD Card Duo, Strider, Alzadic, Nexzr, Parasol Stars: all for <$100 shipped
- SuperGrafx + PCE Duo with bad laser eye (which I easily replaced for $20): around $60-70 shipped IIRC.

Hard-Off was another great source for some cheap games and/or hardware, especially in their "junk" section (which are actually good stuff about 95% of the time, and an easy fix 5% of the time), though they usually didn't carry much PCE stuff.  Even though, I picked up a lot of great Saturn titles for less than 3-400 yen or less.  But I heard that some new law forbids them from now carrying 2nd hand gaming hardware

Welcome! WOW, that is an amazing start to your collection! You already got some of the real big titles in there.

Adding PCE console specific layer on top of that, makes for an interesting challenge (no, not a reference to Ys II).

12800 is the regular and quite stable price in japan for a mint copy.

Yeah, my Dracula X is complete and mint.  I've seen two other copies of it in my area and they are all about the same price really.

Oh, does anyone know about how much Sapphire gets priced at over here?  I'm guessing at least 50,000yen maybe? I'd just like a rough
estimate as Osaka is in day trip distance of me and might check out Den Den Town in a few weeks or so.

Congrats on getting a pce the system should give ya years of gaming.

Given how many games were release for it compare to the u.s

Have fun with it.

I kind of wish i could travel to japan to score some pce titles.

It would save me alot of the trouble dealing with the middle man services.

By that i mean having, to deal with importers and spending all that money.... for the games i want the most.
