Beer lover thread
« on: June 01, 2007, 07:21:22 AM »
Any beer lovers here?  So which ones do you like/hate?  I'll get the ball rolling:

Favorites: Sam Adams Boston Ale, Bass Ale
It'll do: Big Rock Trad Ale, SA Boston Lager, Sleeman's Honey Brown, Newcastle
Can't stand: All that see-through yellow piss-water out of Anheuser-Busch/Coors/Molson/Labatt/Kokanee/Miller.  Well, okay... Coors light on a BBQ out on a hot day maybe okay.

Beer sucks. I only drink high-sugar/high-caffeine drinks. ^.^

My favorite is 'cold' and 'free'.  Otherwise, I'll take a Guinness or any other stout.  I ain't picky when it comes to booze.

What, No Steelback?!

Hmmm, beer.  Anything from the Sierra Nevada breweries is like the Nectar of the Gods.  Belle's ain't bad stuff either.  I've never been a wheat beer guy though.  Labatt Canadian Ale is a nice break from the norm.  Hmmm, Red Hook IPA when I'm really lonely for taste.  Goose Island Honkers Ale is a good light Ale that I recommend to all beer sissies.  Mackeson triple stout is slightly better than guiness, er lots, and Leinie's Big Butt is a long time favorite, even if Miller owns the brewery now.  The only Sam Adams that comes close to blowing my skirt up is Octoberfest, and it's really a novelty.  Samuel Smith's is pretty good if you want a snooty brew.

However, if someone hands me a Bud free and clear of paying for it, I drink it.  The only time I've ever said 'no' to free beer is when I misunderstood the question.

I like root beer! Dogs & Suds is my favorite!

Adding PCE console specific layer on top of that, makes for an interesting challenge (no, not a reference to Ys II).

Barqs is great, but I prefer Dogs & Suds because it comes in a glass bottle and has a cooler logo, not to mention tastes a little better.

Just like games, so many beers out there, so little time to try them all out.

Anyway, I'm helping to derail the thread I started myself, but this talk of sugar/caffeine reminds me.

Do they still sell Jolt Cola?

I tend to prefer my beer top fermenting, not bottom (Ale over Lager), unfiltered is fun, darker can be better. Though I like to mix things up and not buy all the same drink everytime I restock.

Hoegarden is a current light fav, and Old Peculier is a darker fav at the moment

When I journey to the booze store, I like to try and always pick up something different.

Here is a pic of some of my drink stock as of 30min or so ago.

Some of the best beers IN THE UNIVERSE, in my opinion:
-Orval
-Pilsner Urquell
-Löwenbräu
-Grolsch
-Belhaven
-Samuel Adams Summer Ale

Ah, beer!
There is a relatively small but pretty successful brewing company near where I'm from..it's called the "Hyland Sturbridge Brewery" in Sturbridge, Massachusetts. Anyone ever try their stuff?

Yes I believe so. I think there is a website that sells it.

Hells Yeah!  I think that I still have some straight grain alcohol that my pops made a few years back, but I don't know what grain was used (probably corn).  There's nothing quite like having your own distillery, but I don't think that it's legal.

I think it's okay as long as you don't sell it.

Having a bootlegger in the family would be pretty jawesome though!
