AC Pro v. AC Duo
« on: June 04, 2007, 04:42:33 PM »
That's Arcade Card Pro v. Duo for you cats.

Ok, so, I need to pick up an Arcade Card.  I have my fabulous Pimp my Duo-R.  My question is, is there any detriment to using an Arcade Card PRO (yes, I said PRO) in a Duo?  I'd like to pick up a Pro so that any future hardware combo I might get in the future can utilize the card.

Unless there's some huge lag or something from using a PRO on a Duo.  The price difference between the two isn't a factor as it's minimal.

I don't think there is any loading differences or anything like that at all between the two cards, so may as well get PRO if you're into versatility. Sometimes the PRO can cost a lot, sometimes it can go for cheap. Same applies with the DUO card too actually.

Adding PCE console specific layer on top of that, makes for an interesting challenge (no, not a reference to Ys II).

The Pro does look and sound cooler. They probably both perform the same tho. I imagine that if you used the pro in the duo, it probably wouldn't use any of the systems built in memory, maybe this would be an advantage? Who knows, you'll have to try both and tell us. I unfortunately don't own any of those or any arcade games, so don't take my word for it.

If you use an Arcade Card Professional in your Duo it will enhance your Duo's performance by 1000% because, well, that's just the way the AC Pro rolls.

I was going to get a Pro, but I like the fact that the Duo is flat like a normal hucard. Fits in my case better. Unlike those bastards Street Fighter II, populous and tennokoe bank

I recall reading somewhere here that the you can get some sound glitches with SCD games when using an Arcade Card *PRO*.  (Like in Rayxanber II, IIRC).

I've never verified this myself, though -

I have both a Duo and a Pro and have used both without problems in my Turbo Duo, so go ahead and pick up a Pro if you want.  Sometimes I will sandwich a Tennokoe Bank in between the two and tape 'em all together.  This gives my Duo the power to become the true ultimate 2d machine (take that Joe and SNKnostalgia  :P).

Wrong.  You also need the System Card 1.0 in that sandwich.

Anyway, get the Arcade Card Professional.  The other card is not professional at all and is amateur instead.  You definitely DO NOT WANT that!

Interesting tidbit on the AC Pro, if you have a US Turbo Duo and use an AC Pro you'll be able to play the handful of SCD games that will not work on the US SCD bios.  This is because the AC Pro's SCD bios overrides the internal bios.  If my memory serves correctly Alshark, Bonanza Bros, A Train III, and the Dragon Slayer/Tengai 2 demo disc won't play on a US system unless you use an AC Pro (or a JPN super system card 3.0).

That's very interesting, west. I have a Turbo Duo and a Arcade Card Pro, but unfortunately none of those games you mentioned to test out. I want to get one of those games now so I can try that.
